It's been six months, well almost six months since you've seen your best friend. He left to train in the Heart Kingdom, to become stronger. Or as he would say 'worthier'. He has always compared himself to his siblings, but to you, he was already worthy in his own way. Things between you two were left a little unsettled before he departed. It left you questioning just where you stood with each other.
The last time you spoke to him was two months ago. It was as if his actions of departure never happened. Or maybe it was just the fact that the both of you refused to bring it up. Or maybe that it had been so long since you had talked and joked together that you both didn't get the chance. His voice rang in your ears as if he was standing right behind you "I missed hearing your voice, even if you're so far away."
You ran your fingers over your lips, smiling, your stomach erupting with butterflies at the memory from months ago. The long hug and the quick peck he left on your lips. After that he pulled away from you and looked in your eyes and told you he'd become stronger so he would then too, be worthy enough for you.
"What are you so happy for? Excited for training today?" You jumped back, nearly falling off the bench you were sitting on.
"What the hell Leona!" You gripped your shirt right above your heart. "You know I'm taking today off. I already told you."
"Fine, that's fine. Just thought I'd give you once last chance." She shrugged her shoulders.
"One last chance? For what? To get my ass kicked by you?" You asked, raising a brow and smiling.
"Mmmm, maybe six months ago that would have been true. But not now. Enjoy your day, I'm proud of you kid." She ruffled your hair and walked off leaving you to yourself and your thoughts. It was beyond boring without Leo here with you.
You decided to grab your favorite book from your room, even though you've read it at least 4 times, and made your way to the courtyard to relax and read in the sun.
"Vulcan?" You questioned out loud. "Where's my handsome big boy at?"
From around the fountain in the middle, he sauntered out and up to you. Every time you saw him, he took your breath away. His golden hazel eyes reflected the sunlight and his orange-brown mane flowed gracefully. He rubbed his head against your leg letting out a long, low purr. He had become your new companion, in the absence of the fiery, vermilion haired boy. Though, you think the big cat secretly always liked you more. He laid down in the sun, you collapsing against his side, his large head resting on your legs. You began to read your book, but didn't make it far as the warmth of the sun and the sounds of nature lulled you into a sleepy state.

"Vulcan, come here boy!" Clapping sounds are what stirred you from your peaceful nap. Your eyes remained closed as you snuggled closer into the mane of the male lion. 
"I still can't figure out why he likes you so much." Your eyes shot open at the sound of the familiar voice. Slightly deeper, but still all the same.
"Leo?" You sat up. Rubbing sleep from your eyes and stretching out your back. Your eyes met his fiery, turquoise ones. You couldn't believe it, the excitement taking over. You lept up from your spot and raced towards him. You launched yourself at him as you have done many times before. He instinctively knew what to do, out of habit. His arms wrapping themselves tightly around your waist as your own went around his neck. Your legs wrapping securely around his waist. Leopold!" you squealed from excitement. Though you also felt the butterflies start to awaken from the tight embrace.
He set you down a moment later and held you out at arms length. "Hi, Y/n". He gave you his signature smile, his pointy tooth more prominent than the last time you saw him. You scanned him from head to toe. He changed, but in a favorable way.
"Leo, your hair! And oh my gosh, your eyebrows! I can't tease you anymore about them, they aren't bushy?!" You reached up and ran your hand through his shortened locks of hair.
"You haven't seen me for six months and you're worried about my eyebrows?" His mouth turned into a fine line, then into a pout. Your own eyes went wide, you were about to apologize when he started laughing pulling you into him for another hug. You couldn't help but laugh with him, the happiness bubbling over from having your best friend back.
"I can't believe you're home. So how was it? Did you make any new friends? Tell me everything!" You grasped his hand trying to pull him inside the base.
"Slow down, Y/n! I promise to tell you everything. I have to go to a meeting first to update the Wizard King about our new plans."
"You just got back, can't it wait?" You crossed your arms looking at him. He gave you a small, sad smile in return. "I'm sorry, it can't. We're supposed to return in the morning."
"In the morning? Oh.." Your shoulders slumped, heart already aching at the thought of Leopold leaving again.
"Hey, I'll be back in a little, okay?" He leaned down placing a kiss on your cheek taking his leave from the courtyard.
