Being from the (l/n) family, royalty was expected. Fine clothes, enough money to buy anything the heart desired, commoners bowing their heads as you passed by. I was the youngest of my siblings. Both of whom are magic knights. My sister was a high-ranking mage with the Silver Eagles, while my brother was in the Golden Dawn. Typical, the only squads fit for nobles, as my parents would say. I was the black sheep of the family, rebellious in my own right. Making friends with those deemed lesser, sneaking out at night and failing to appear at parties on many occasions.

Being a noble, it was intoxicating but not in a good way. I longed for adventure, something more than being holed up inside a castle brushing my hair and wearing fancy dresses and being forced on set up dates that my parents fixed. I too dreamed of being a knight, I wanted my own freedom. I got my grimoire two years ago. However, my mother and father wanted me to become stronger before I was allowed to take the exam. And today, the day has finally come, standing in the line to receive my number which was 165. I stare ahead smiling at the new adventure that awaits as my mind drifts elsewhere.

--Flashback—

Sneaking out was not a good idea especially if it was ten at night and one was going to the black market in the Royal Capital. But I needed a new outfit for the royal knight's exam. I couldn't particularly fight in a dress, that would just be dumb, I thought. Also, this was my chance to make a name for myself outside of my family. I had to look good doing it.

I've been to two stalls so far. Nothing I'd seen caught my attention. I turned the corner only to come face to chest with something rock hard. I stumbled back almost falling down.

"You should really watch were you're going young lady", He said. I looked up to see a burly man standing before me with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth,

"Well maybe you should watch were you're going!" I replied, while giving and eye roll pushing past him, while flipping him the bird over my shoulder.

The guy next to him seemed surprised by my actions, even going as far as to say "Captain—"

"Oh, I like her!" was all I heard as I continued my way down the street.

--End Flashback—

Standing in the middle of the crowd, I move to make my way to the edge when a certain puff of smoke and black unruly hair caught my attention. Narrowing my eyes, I made my way over. Said man had a grip on a grey-haired kid's skull.

"What are you even doing?!" I yelled at the man

"Oh, it's you again. You shouldn't butt your heard into things that don't concern you, you know." He replied

I rolled my eyes but was cut off by a guy around my age. "Um Captain Yami, we really need to get going. You should put him down"

"Captain? Seriously?? I laughed out, quickly covering my mouth. "So, you're telling me you're a captain of one of the magic knight squads?

He narrowed his eyes blowing smoke into my face while finally dropping the struggling kid. "You have a problem with that kid?" He bit back while also pointing to the bull logo on his robe.

"Oh, not at all Captain, sir!" I said saluting him and wrapping my arm around the shoulder of the ash-grey haired boy and began walking away.

I kept walking a few steps before I took my arm of his shoulders. "Hi, I'm Y/N by the way. I said smiling at the boy.

"Names Asta and I'm going to become the next Wizard King!"
