Lonette grew up to be a very beautiful woman but the life in the brothels hardened her. Everyday she looks through the window while she lay in bed as the customers use her. She wishes she was somewhere else but feels stuck and it makes her feel more numb everyday. Especially when Patricia is no longer with her.
When the customer was done, Lonnette starts dressing up again.
He left with a satisfied sigh and threw the money on the bed. The door closes and he was gone.
Lonette slowly reaches for the money and sighs. She collects the money and was thankful that was the last customer for today. Today was a good day some of the customers gave her extra money for tips.
Lonette slides on her dress and gets out of her room. Then heads to the bar but was stop by another prostitute, Betty. She hands a letter to Lonette.
"Here Nettie, I got this from the mailman this morning".
Lonette smiles and said thanks but as she was about to take the letter, Betty pulls back the letter and with her other hand opens her palm. Lonnette kept her smile on her face and reaches for money in her pocket. After Betty receive the money she smiles and quickly leaves.
"Thanks Nettie". Lonnette just nods at her.
Lonette goes back into her room and opens the letter and reads it in her mind.
"Dear Miss Lonette Natalie Grea
We are sorry but to inform you that the money that you sent was not enough to cover the medical service for your sister, Darlene Patricia Grea, and we had to send her to another facility that could handle her. They will send a letter to you after everything is settled about the payment and her condition. In the following letter is the address of the hospital where your sister resides now currently and a summary of her latest condition from her doctor in our hospital."
Lonette sits down on her bed. Fear ran through her body. Not enough money? Tears ran down from Lonnette's face. So many thoughts ran through her head. Is Patricia ok?
Her hands were shaking when she read the other letter. Her eyes saw the address but focuses on the summary of Patricia's condition.
Her heart felt like it was going to break as she read the letter. Slowly she drops the letter on her lap. Patricia has not gotten any better and even worse is that she developed pneumonia. The letter said her condition was detoriating and was not sure for her recovery. Lonnette starts sobbing as she holds onto the letter.
Bang bang! Someone was knocking on her door loudly. Madam Cheri comes barging in.
"Nettie! What's wrong with you! You are late. The men are waiting for you in the bar. You need the extra money right? If you are not serious about this I can just get another girl...".
Lonette looks up to Madam Cheri with her eyes full of tears. Madam Cheri stops shouting when she saw this.
"I am sorry Madam Cheri. I just got this letter from Patricia's hospital".
