Alec's really fun to hang out with. He can tell if something's wrong but he doesn't pressure me to talk about it, instead he's trying his best to distract me with meaningless conversation. "In my opinion, pineapple being on pizza is a choice, and people can do whatever they want, I mean it is pretty delicious" he states while taking a bite out of a slice of pizza. We're in a nearby park , and we ended up here after buying groceries. He asked if I wanted to get something to eat since the both of us haven't had dinner yet. How could I say no? It's free food, I'd never deny that. "Damn, and here I thought we would be good friends, might have to take that back Lane. Can't be friends with someone who has a sucky taste in pizza" I replied with a giggle.
"How could you? '' he clutched his heart, acting absolutely devastated. I roll my eyes at his playful antics and we slowly return to a comfortable silence. He grabbed his coffee and said "So... why were you upset?" "An argument with Isabel '' I sighed out, not wanting to think about how I lashed out at her earlier. "Oh, was it about today?" he questioned, "Yeah.. I hate losing my temper but she makes it so hard.'' I internally drowned myself in guilt as I replayed the whole conversation in my head. I could have worded it a bit nicer. Maybe not call her a brat..? "Stop going over what you said a million times. What's said is said, and if I'm being honest she deserved it '' He commented while shrugging his shoulders. "You shouldn't be saying that, she's your girlfriend you know?" I scolded him softly "Yeah she is. But that doesn't mean I have to defend her when she does something wrong. Anyway enough with the sappy stuff, How is Seth's painting going? It must be hard with all the work we're getting in class. The last assignment was a nightmare" I wanted to ask why he changed the topic so fast but I couldn't so I went with it. "Right? I can't believe they only gave us a week to complete 6 pieces. But Seth's painting is coming along just fine, I work on it when I have the time to properly dedicate myself to it. He's paying alot for it, I'm giving it my all to make sure it's close to perfect and that he likes it" I spoke, hoping that my work is up to his standard in the end. "Oh please, he should be honoured that THE Avalon Diaz is painting a piece for him" He retorted dramatically. I laughed in response "I'm not that good '' I whispered under my breath.
"By the way... You've been dating Izzy for awhile now and you were my classmate before that, I'm surprised I don't know anything about you'' It's crazy actually, I know everyone in our university pretty well since I'm involved with a lot of events but I've never noticed him before, how did I not? He's one of the star players on our basketball team, and he's in my class. "Ask away, What do you want to know?" He replied nonchalantly while turning towards me. "Don't put me on the spot like that" I shoved him playfully as I laughed "Just tell me something about yourself... like siblings? Do you have any siblings like me?"
"I do have an older brother, but I haven't seen him for more than 10 years now" He replied, the tone of his voice had slightly changed... Sadness? Regret? I can't tell. "Wait, 10 years?? How come?". "My parents divorced 10 years ago, my mum got to keep me while my dad took my brother to stay with him. I haven't seen or talked to him since, I didn't even bother to reach out." He looks up to the sky, I can't see his face anymore. "...Do you want to?" I questioned. "I don't know, maybe? But it's too late now. I don't know anything about him" He responded, finally facing me again. His expression broke my heart, his face had always held such a genuine smile but now it was replaced with an expression I couldn't quite name but it was painful. No one deserves to be so far away from their family. "He's your brother Alec, It's never too late, I'm sure he wants to talk to you too," I say, trying to comfort him in any way I can. His heart was as pure as gold, his brother could never hate him. "Thanks, Avalon, I should probably get you back home before Vera calls in a missing person report," He says as he gets off the bench, throwing the empty cup of his coffee away. As I get up I finally look at my phone, 1 AM!? I didn't even realize. "Oh my god you're right, let's go"
