Your parents had just arrived and was midway through dinner together with the boys at JB's place. While happily chatting in casual banter, Mark decided to break the sudden news to your parents that he was dating you, much to the surprise of your parents.
"Uncle, its your daughter, and I hope you give us your blessings." jumping the gun altogether, Mark had caught the moment to shock the dining table with the news that he was now in a relationship.
Obviously taken aback at the choice of setting to announce this, your parents were speechless. Sensing the awkward moment, Jackson quickly broke the silence.
"Ohmygoodness!! That's some awesome news!! Aunty do you like Mark better or do you like me better? Or if you like both of us, I could date your other daughter.." a cheeky Jackson always had the knack for easing up tense situations.
"YAH!" JB was quick to respond. "Do you think it would be your turn? I'm the Hyung.."
The boys laughed while stealing glances at your parents to wait for their reaction to Mark's "news".Your mum smiled slightly, and looked at Mark. "Tell me what is it that you like about her."
Without hesitating, Mark put down his cutlery and looked at you."She has always been the one for me but I was too timid to approach her. Her warm smile is the first thing that lights up my day and the last thing I want to see each night. It sounds cliche but, I've waited long enough and I don't want to waste another minute of my life without her being part of it. I can't say what I like about her... but what I know is that there is nothing I cannot accept about her, past, present, and future."
The boys gapped in silence and somewhat cringed to hear their big brother get so touchy in their presence, much unlike the chic and emotionless city guy that he was. His honesty also moved them to put in a good word each, almost to the point of persuasion.
You decide to speak up and ask what they thought about it.
"Dad, Mum, you've known Mark for such a long time now. I'm sure you know what kind of boy he has been and the man he has grown to be. I can't say for the rest of the guys I've met but Mark is one of the sweetest guys you will ever meet. Isn't it good to have your daughter in the hands of someone like him?"
Finally your Dad spoke, hesitantly. "Are you dating Mark or is he dating your sister? He only said 'your daughter' so I wasn't sure.... if it was Chelsea I wouldn't be so sure about that but if it's you he's dating, I would be more than glad."
Mark blushed and bowed his head down in embarrassment. Realising that he had left out the most important detail of his speech. The boys laughed out loud at the humorous nature of your dad and the silliness of their big brother at such a crucial moment.
Chelsea laughed as well, and lightened the atmosphere even further to tease the boys. "I won't date Mark if I had a choice either, he can't cook for nuts! I'd starve to death if I had to eat pizza everyday!"
"Well... so that's why you came to pick us this afternoon?" asked your Mum with a raised brow.
"N-n-no, I mean, yes. But, I would still even if this wasn't the case.." Mark stuttered hardly knowing whether he was making any sense.
Seeing is flustered expression, you reached out beside you to hold his hand. "It's okay, haha, she's just teasing you." turning to your mum, you said "please mum, don't matchmake me anymore.....as you can see, there really isn't a need and you can channel your efforts somewhere else...." hinting at Chelsea who was across the table.
"I got it, and yes, Mark, she's now in your care. But at any time that you find her too much of a handful, just call me, and it would be best if you find a suitable replacement on my behalf -
matchmaking isn't all that simple you know!" joked your Mum as she gave him a wink and set everyone back to dinner laughter.
