After fleeing out of Park's meeting room, Mr Jeon let out a huge sigh of relief and almost sagged against the pristine white walls.
"Mr Jeon, are you sure you're alright?"
"I think. I don't know Chanyeol. What am I going to tell my son?" He walked over to the empty glass elevators, not paying any attention to his surroundings. "He's going to hate me after this. He was even in a relationship!" The elevator went down along with his hopes. "I've really messed up this time, Chanyeol, and I don't think I will ever be able to clean it up."
"Sir, I'm sure everything will smooth out soon."
"Soon? If it ever smoothes out I'm lucky."
All his assistant could do was smile miserably at that, even he knew his boss was doomed, especially with his son. If only Park Jimin weren't so intimidating.
"Sir... about his relationship, Mr Park never said he was to marry the boy, they are just to live together."
"Even you know what sort of person Park Jimin is. He may be loyal but is a playboy. On top of that he just broke up with his last girlfriend..."
Chanyeol just sighed, and opened the door for his boss. Jeon sagged into the seat of his car and covered his tired face with shaking hands.
They drove away in a deafening silence, everyone drained after their encounter with Park, and no one knew how to comfort their boss. Eventually arriving at the supposed destination, Mr Jeon looked at the state of his company. The glass building at first glance looked like it was part of an able strong company, but after entering the building, you know it's part of a bankrupt business. After the splendor of Park Enterprises, the reception seemed almost like a shack. A simple wooden desk and an out-of-date laptop sat there with his receptionist sitting behind it.
"Welcome back sir."
"Hello Baekhyun."
Jeon kept walking, through the normal wooden doors and to the rest of the building, the workers all had a desk and a comfortable chair but his fifty workers compared to Park's thousands were nothing. All his mind was filled with was his company and Park's, and how they're so different. He sincerely regretted sending his son away but looking at the state of his company, he desperately needed the money. But he made a vow, the minute he had enough money, he would buy his son back.
The day went by too quickly for Jeon and in no time Chanyeol came into his small office telling him it's time for him to go home. Sure enough the plastic clock in the corner, slowly ticked away with its hands pointing at 5 o'clock. Nothing compared to the gold one in Parks office.
"Come on sir, I'm sure it won't be that bad."
"Speak for yourself. If I don't come to work tomorrow, visit me in the hospital."
"Stop being so dramatic," but it was in a soft gentle tone. He was happy to see his boss joking around even though his situation was far from funny. "Now go."
Jeon decided that today he'll walk home, it had been raining on and off all day leaving the air crisp and fresh. Also he was delaying the time he would have to tell Jungkook about the deal. Without checking his phone at all, he set off avoiding the puddles.
The streets were packed with cars and pedestrians were hurrying home to their loved ones but Mr Jeon stood out in many ways for that sole reason. He even took a detour into the small park but unfortunately that didn't last long. Turns out his son was having a small date in that very park and Jeon had the pleasure of walking in on his son and boyfriend making out under an oak tree.
"Ahem."
"Oh um... hi dad... Why are you here?" The young boy who had only passed twenty spoke up, his cheeks slightly flushed.
"Just a small walk, the air is so fresh today."
"Oh um right. Should I walk you home?"
"No son, I'll be fine. Have fun but be home by 7!" Enjoy it while you can.
The clouds darkened as he walked home. Rain, more rain. I guess that means Jungkook would come home earlier...
The sodden man ran the last few steps to his house, and quickly slammed the door shut. The house immediately greeted him with a blast of warmth and the lingering smell of the kimchi from last night. The lamp Jungkook had left on gave the living room a dim glow and Jeon crashed down on the worn sofa. His gaze surveyed the room and eventually landed on the marble fireplace, or to be more precise, the photo frames. Each frame showed a family of three smiling at the camera in their best clothes: a beautiful young woman, who slightly resembles a bunny, holding a boy who could be no older than five who matched her smile. And with them was Mr Jeon himself. Unconsciously the man quietly muttered to himself.
"What have I done Nayeon? I've messed up but I just don't know how to make it right. Our son will hate me but is it really my fault?" His phone suddenly started ringing and Jeon almost jumped.
"Hello. Jungkook?"
"Hey dad, I'm gonna come home a little late today. Yugyeom invited me over for dinner... I did cook for us, there's tteokbokki in the fridge that I made before you came home."
"That's fine Kook... what time will you come home then."
"Uhhhhh." A pause. "Around 8 I guess."
"Ok that's fine, stay safe!"
Luck seemed to be on his side for once, though he didn't know whether it was luck or not but as long as he didn't have to face Jungkook too soon. Hours seemed like minutes and in no time at all the front door opened revealing the second resident of the house.
"WOO, I'm home!"
"Ah Jungkook, come I need to talk to you about something.'
"About what?"
A sigh. "I'll tell you when you sit down. Promise me you won't hate me after this."
"Why would I ever hate you?"
-§-
"YOU DID WHAT?!"
"Jungkook, please calm down."
"Yes, yes sure. Deep breaths Jaykay, deep breaths." The agitated boy stood up and started pacing the room. "So... to save your company you decided to sell me-"
"Not sell, just... rent?"
Ignoring his father, Jungkook continued, "For how much exactly? Oh right you don't know." While saying all of this, Jungkook was pulling his raincoat back on and was slowly edging towards the door. "Last thing dad. You said not to hate you and I don't." Mr Jeon breathed a sigh of relief. "But it's nice to know that your company is more important to you than your own son." And walked back into the pouring rain letting the door slam behind him.
Back inside his father sagged back into his chair, his son's words ringing in his ears.
