Hermione's POV

He was trying. Draco Malfoy was actually trying. I wanted to run up to him and say yes, but I knew I couldn't yet. Rather I had to wait. To see if he could actually change. Hurriedly, I ran up to my dorm and fell down into my bed. Giggles threatened to rise up in my throat, but I choked them down. Nobody else could know. Secrets didn't stay secrets for long. Not here. Too many loudmouths. Word might get out. Harry and Ron were practically sworn enemies with him. If he didn't truly change, there would be no way for me I could go to the dance with him. No way I could ever be with him. With the giggles finally fading, I closed my eyes and willed my over active mind to quiet down.

Draco's POV
With one act of kindness down, I was already higher up in Hermione's books. Being kind didn't really have a downfall. Actually, it felt rather good yesterday. I started holding doors for people, saying thank you if somebody did a small unasked favour. It was going quite well actually. Hermione glanced at me every so often, but I would turn my head down with a sheepish smile. It was too soon to talk to her yet. No matter how I felt, I couldn't be sure if she felt the same. She might of just used my desperation as an excuse for me to be a nicer person. She was good natured that way. The classes this week were a blur, I only focused on my actions. It would take a while for me to gain her approval. I knew that.
