Hermione's POV

It had been a month since Draco asked me out to the dance. He had really cleaned up his act. Acts of kindness almost seemed like his second nature. His friends didn't spend much time around him anymore, but more people started smiling at him in the hallways.
Draco stood alone in the corridor, looking like he wanted to talk to me. I tried not to look his way while walking towards my destination. As I walked closer to him, I heard my name spill out of his mouth.

Draco's POV

Pounding filled my ears. Voices filled my head.
"She'll reject you. She'll hurt you. She'll make you look weak."
Pushing their words aside, I spoke her name. It came out as a measly squeaking noise, but it was audible enough apparently. She turned towards me. Brown frizzy hair twirling around her head while her feet shifted. I glanced at window looking outside. It looked like a nice enough day.

"Can I talk to you, outside?"

The words were forced. I needed to calm down. I was too nervous.

"I was going to study, but I guess I can take a minute to talk to you."

Her voice was proud and even. Not alike to to mine. A slight shy smile appeared on my lips, and I walked up to the door, holding it open for the image of grace in front of me. Wind ran through her hair, making the smile on my lips grow. The door closed behind me, and together we walked out towards Hagrid's hut. It was the only place nobody really went to, other then her and her friends.

"I've been taking into consideration what you said that day I asked you to the dance. I've tried to be nice. If it's not enough, just know I'm trying. You know I'm doing what I can. That's besides the point. I was wondering..."

My voice broke off and I had to breath a couple times before I could attempt speaking again. I saw Crab and Goyle walking towards us. Regaining my speech, I blurted out what I had been meaning to say.

"Will you go to the upcoming dance with me?"

"If love to. However you have to keep up this act. You know people won't like this. We're supposed to be enemies. I can't be seen with you if you go back to being an ass."

I nodded. It was what was expected from her. I took her arm and motioned for is to begin walking back towards the school, dreading passing Crab and Goyle.
