My name is Gon Freecess. I live on an outpost called Whale Island, which lies in the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Padokea.

I have spent my entire life on the island, with very few friends. I mostly helped my aunt Mito with the chores and sometimes went fishing, but I've never been able to just hang out with kids my own age and play.
My dad left when I was a kid and my mom died when I was young so I never had a family other than my aunt. It was always really lonely.
I always wanted to leave the island, but aunt Mito's life was here, and I couldn't just leave her all alone. Unfortunately, an awful event would force me to leave, and cost me everything, including my only family.
