The cold feeling of the barrel of a rifle makes my body stop all motion.
"Now, here's what gonna go down now", explained the man with a gun to my temple. "You're gonna get up slowly, put your hands behind your back, and walk over to the corner of the room. Make one move and I won't think twice to put a bullet right in your skull."
I comply and slowly bring myself to my feet. Step-by-step I walk over to the corner of the room. "Now turn around and face the wall", the man barks to me. I face the wall and listen to the stranger explain his "plan."
"Now, listen closely now. I'm going to search your bags, take anything useful, and leave. I don't want to hurt you. If I wanted to I would've already fill your brain with lead."
I swallow hardly and look towards the ground. Car keys. 2 keys attached to a red handle lay on the ground.
I hear the man searching through my bags as I take a step toward the keys. I see the wireless alarm button on the remote. I step right on it hoping for a reaction.
Excessive beeping and honking echoes throughout the neighborhood. The man whips around towards the window to observe the noise. I don't think twice as I rush for my AUG and strike him in the back of the head with the stock. He collapses to the ground, dropping water bottles and canned food to the ground.
I knew it was time to leave before anyone else arrived.
I open my backpack and place all the items he took out back into the bag. Still baffles me how he didn't just shoot me then and there. I'd be fine with it. In some ways I wish he pulled the trigger.
I leave him 2 water bottles and a can of soup and crawl out of the attic door and rush out the front door. The suburbs weren't safe. But I don't think where I was heading would be any better.
