"Oh, Stanley." The man's gaze flickered around the room as he looked for something, anything that he could use to his advantage right now. The buttons around the room didn't do anything and he was running out of time. "This isn't the first time you've done this and you still don't know that you can't do anything." Stanley had no idea what the Narrator was talking about. This wasn't the first time Stanley had done this? What did he mean? Of course Stanley remembered the resets after the endings but there was no memory of this happening. Maybe another ending had caused his memories of the office to be completely wiped along with the world? Or maybe the Narrator was just bluffing...? He didn't know and he didn't have time to think about it now. "Why would you think that, Stanley? That this video game can be beaten, won, solved? Do you have any idea what your purpose in this place is?" The Narrator laughed cruelly, making Stanley flinch. He had never laughed like that before. "Stanley... you're in for quite a disappointment." The only thought that Stanley had was fix this and get out. However, as much as he tried, that wasn't going to happen. Somewhere deep down he knew that.
"Narrator, please. I don't want to die like this." Stanley signed, begging for the Narrator to have a change of heart. Of course they had been at each other's throats this whole time but it's not like Stanley didn't care about the Narrator. And-And he knew the Narrator cared about him! He had to, right? He wanted Stanley to have freedom, so he had to care... So Stanley prayed. He begged that their small connection in this endless loop of resets would fix all of this. There was a soft sigh and some words mumbled that Stanley couldn't make out and for a moment, he thought he had done it. Then, the Narrator scoffed.
"You've had your chance, Stanley. I'm going to watch you be blown to pieces and I'm going to enjoy it. You want to control my world, my story? Well, we'll see who's really in control here." Stanley couldn't even form coherent thoughts anymore. He was panicking, trying to think of something to do to save himself. Was there a way he could cause a game restart on his own? He didn't think so. "Make it count, Stanley. Or don't. Whether you do or not doesn't really matter to me. It'll all just start over again anyways." Only a few seconds were left. This was it then. "Goodbye, Stanley--" And then all he felt was pain.

Stanley's eyes shot open, and he reached up to grip his chest. His lungs felt like they were being squeezed in a way that prevented him from breathing. They were burning. He wasn't sure when he had fallen asleep... he didn't even know that he could sleep in the parable. He would have done it a long time ago if he knew it was an option. Stanley was disoriented at first, his eyes darting around to figure out where he was and why he was there. When he saw movement out of the corner of his eye he flinched, hesitating to look over at first. His breathing was shallow and ragged. When he looked over and saw the man sitting next to him, he had to stare for a lot longer than he should have to remember who it was. The Narrator. Yes, that's right. The Narrator had come down to sit in the light room with Stanley. The Narrator's hand was resting on top of Stanley's.
"Such a shame that we have to restart soon." The Narrator sighed, shifting so he could see Stanley out of the corner of his eye better. His expression shifted to fear when he saw how Stanley looked. "Stanley?" Not long ago, Stanley had been looking over at Narrator with admiration; he had looked at him with what could almost be called love (platonic love, Stanley would insist) as the two of them sat in the beautiful room that Narrator had created just for them to be happy together. Now... Now Stanley was looking at him in fear. He was afraid. The Narrator could hear Stanley's (plot relevant) thoughts if he so desired... and his thoughts now were scattered and loud. The Narrator frowned, tuning out of them just as Stanley shook his head hastily.
