Kayla POV
"Kayla Amore Ludus, it is 6:31am, if I have to tell you to get out of bed to get ready for work, one more time....."
"Ugh," I groan. "Why do I have to go anyways, Mom? It's not even like an actual job, only an internship....."
I respond tiredly, pulling the warm blankets up to my face again, as if she's going to let me fall asleep for the 4th time, since she tried waking me up.
Of course she just mumbles:
"It's so you can have a great job one day! And, it's only been two weeks! You've got til the end of summer and you're done!" She replies, way to cheery for 6am, if I may say.
She then, (again) , pulls them off of me before placing them hallway across the room so I would have to get up to get them again. Turning on my light and setting a basket of clean clothes on my desk, she walks out of the room, saying:
"Hurry up, if you want to eat AND look like you didn't actually get up fifteen minutes before you had to leave!"
Eventually, after staring at my ceiling for a few minutes, I stumble out of bed towards my desk and look around in the laundry basket for something to throw on. I manage to grab light skinny jeans, and a tank-top with some corny joke on the front..... Most likely about corn. Not very professional, but the Internship is only for photography, and it's not like I'm the one in the picture.
After trying to decide weather or not to wear my all black converse, or my bright pink ones, I grab the pink ones, and hurry downstairs.
Halfway falling on my face while trying to tie my laces, and walk at the same time, somehow I make it to the kitchen, where I'm greeted my my mother who shoves a plate with warm pop tarts and a glass of chocolate milk at me.
"Thanks mom, and uh," I start "I was wondering if maybe, I dunno by chance....." I take a bite of poptart. " Can I-"
"Nope." She cuts me off.
I finish off the milk before responding, "But, Mooooooooom, you said I could drive the car 'later' ," I say making quotation marks with my hands dramatically. "Literally, about a week ago. And I finally got driving lessons, since I'm almost 15, in a month and a half!
"And?" She countered, raising her eyebrows, giving her signature "Mom" look.
Huffing I finish my breakfast, and grab my bag for "work", and my phone. Then attempt at opening the passenger door of the old Audi my mom refuses to even try to repair. Ever since some idiot kid rode into the side door with one one of those small motorcycle things, it's never opened the same way since, and has to be pulled to the left then up for it to open. Ugh.
By the time I manage to jimmy open the door, mom's already waiting in the car turning on the AC.
Thank god, I think. It's sweltering for late June in New York, soon to be 90 degrees. I mean I saw yesterday it was supposed to be warm, but not hot. After a silent ten minute or so, car ride only interrupted by the radio songs, she drops me off at the Photography Studio passing that bowl thing tourist come to Albany New York, which I personally don't get. It's just a bowl thing, I mean come on.
Anyhow, I say bye to mom, rush (at least I try to with the crappy door) out of the car, and text Jennifer.
<To Jenni Loraz 7:02am
<heyo im outside the studio forgot my key come to the door and let me in please?>
Waiting for her response I sit on the bench, and start playing Splashy Fish, (that's the copy of Flappy Bird if you didn't know) when I see something from the corner of my side vision. It seems to disappear as soon as I look up though. Huh, must be some weirdo creep that everyone's experienced before in New York. Suddenly my phone goes off, signaling someone texted me.
<From Jenni Loraz 7:09am
<how about no lol jk im not even there im out sick sowwy>
I sigh heavily.
Ugh, that's great, now I will be stuck out here for the next hour or-
"Um, hey Kayla, forget your key again?" Someone says jokingly, and distracts me from my thoughts.
Looking up I see it's that guy from one of the offices in the building, gosh what's his name? I should remember he got like three awards for "Most Recycled Items", and "Best Garden" and a few other things that our offices try to 'Green up the Area, and make the Wold a Better place' kinda things. AHA I know him! Grover!
"Grover! Hey!" I start way too excited for 7am, partially startling him for my sudden outburst of excitement from remembering his name. "Oh sorry," I apologize chuckling lightly, and trying to pull on a welcoming smile, so he eases up a bit once more, smiling back comfortably.
"Yeah, that'd be great if you could let me in." I reply smiling, getting up, and following Grover a few feet to the door. We make small talk heading onto the elevator.
"So anything interesting happening with you lately?" Grover asks, pausing to push the button for his floor; 9th floor.
I think for a moment, laugh push my floor number button; 11th floor, and respond, "Nah, not really it's been pretty boring actually, besides this heat, and this weird creeper I saw outside right before you came." I laugh at the thought, then see as Grover gets a serious face, causing my laugh to die down.
"Was it like some creeper....." He started thinking. "Who happened to be around six feet, wearing a dark brown trench coat, with red sneakers?" He asks almost concerned.
Thinking back to earlier, I realize this is just as I saw him at a glace. I confusedly look at Grover, with a questioning look.
"Um," I start. "Grover how exactly did you know that? Did you see him too?"
When I basically admit to what he thought, his nervous smile drops into a serious tone.
"Uh, Uh, Uh," he stutters. "Yeah, I saw him this morning.... And Kayla," He says grabbing my attention from thinking, by putting a hand on my shoulder. "If you happen to see this.....person..... again just-"
The ding of the elevator signals it's Grover's floor, he seems to mutter a word in a foreign language under his breath and hurry off, only glancing back once before the elevator doors close, pulling me away from his look of concern.
I shake my head and sigh trying to make sense of what Grover was talking about.....
