The sun burns my eyes for a moment as I realize it's practically morning. Normally my feet would hurt from walking so long, but luckily they don't right now for some inexplicable reason. Maybe it's because I'm wearing mismatched shoes. (Which wasn't intentional, I noticed it about an hour ago much to my chagrin) I turn back to see how my companions are faring and chide myself for letting Greg bother (Y/N)- she shouldn't have to deal with my pesky brother. But honestly, I don't want to deal with him either.
(Y/N). What do I know about (Y/N)...she's new to town and kinda popular because of it, she's in the drama club, and she's terrifying. She's probably about the same height as me give or take a few inches, but she gives off the aura of someone taller. She was like a...ocean? No...a vampire...or a siren...I'll think of a good simile later, but something like I'm very beautiful, but I'm also powerful and will gladly kill you. A ruthless, wild beauty. ( No, actually that's too poetic- it's almost cheesy.) And she probably hated me.
So naturally I never talked to her. But Sara talked to her, so I would occasionally overhear things about (Y/N). She was from Gravity Falls, Oregon. She likes tea and Tim Burton movies. She has a cat...
I'm not sure what I think of her. In a weird way, I've only recently started processing her as a human rather than a concept... But I guess that's just what happens when you get lost in the forest with only the scary girl and your brother for company.
Speaking of which...
"It's almost morning, we should have found a town by now. This is the direction the woodsman told us to go, right?" (Y/N) opened her mouth to respond, but Greg cut her off by blowing a raspberry.
"Have you listened to anything I'm saying? For the last few hours I've been saying pllfft!" I roll my eyes.
"Well that settles it, (Y/N) and I are walking ten feet ahead of you."
(Y/N) shrugged. "He'll be fine, right?"
"Yeah, he wanders off on his own all the time- he'll be fine if we're walking faster than he is."I explain.
"Sorry about him," I added.
She smiled. "Honestly Wirt, you're the only one annoyed by your brother. But I get it, siblings are annoying, and even more so when no one else finds it annoying."
"Ugh, yeah."
"Hey guys? I hear something!" Greg has caught up with us. Lovely.
"It's probably nothing, Greg- Oh! Hey, look!" As I turned to look at Greg, I spotted a sign! "'Pottsfield, one mile'! A Town! Let's go this way!"
(Y/N) grins. "And it's by a pumpkin patch!" She gestures towards the field full of pumpkins and other autumnal bounty.
"Okay, let's go this way." Greg turns and runs in the opposite direction.
"Not-ugh..."
"Well on the bright side, we found a town!" (Y/N)'s eyes are still shining even as we backtrack to follow Greg.
"Yup. Looks like this adventure is over!" I agree. (Although admittedly, I probably sound depressing)
"Maybe they have real food! Like the kind that isn't candy!"
She sounds so carefree that for a moment I nearly forget that I'm afraid of her. That moment is killed quickly though when we find Greg talking to a bush as if it's sentient.
"Greg, stop talking to a bush."
"Okay!" As he does, he pulls out the bird. The talking bird that I've been trying to forget about.
