The Royal Palace of Eraklyon
Dining room
Bloom's POV
"Careful, Skylar!" Sky exclaimed worriedly, tailing close behind Skylar as she bounced through the royal palace hallways with the excitement of a two-year-old, which she was.
I watched as I followed behind them, frowning as I couldn't forget what happened last night. Skylar seemed as cheerful as she usually was, but my heart still felt like a dozen arrows were piercing it as the hysterical state she was in still echoed in my mind. She absolutely refused to talk about it and sobbed into her father's pyjama shirt until it was soaked through, and when she finally fell asleep, even then she didn't loosen her grip on Sky.
Skylar was independent by nature, radiating positivity but kept all negativity to herself. A few months ago she was running a fever and still managed to keep a bright smile on her face. I only found out when I was tucking her into bed that night, and I was crying uncontrollably with guilt that I hadn't noticed earlier after I had taken her to the doctor's but she still tried her best to comfort me, her smile never faltering. I knew she felt horrible and sick but she tried her best not to show it at all because she didn't want me to feel bad.
"Mummy, hurry upppppp we gonna be late for breakfastttt!!!" Skylar suddenly turned back around, running to tug on my sleeves. I chuckled, Sky's gaze meeting mine as a proceeded to quicken my pace. He put on a smile at Skylar's antics but he couldn't hide the worry in his eyes from me just as I could hide nothing from him.
Sky's parents were already having breakfast when we arrived, but Sky raised a brow at the food on the table. I gave him a questioning look and he leaned to whisper in my ear, "my mother would normally never allow such sweetening food on the table".
Only part of the long dining table was set with utensils and food, but there was still a ridiculous amount of pancakes generously doused with maple syrup, eggs and soldiers, golden waffles, bowls of glistening strawberries and blueberries, chocolate muffins, strawberry cupcakes with colourful icing and heaps of servings of sugar and whipped cream. Skylar's eyes practically lit up at the sight of her grandparents, but perhaps also because she caught sight of all the food.
"Good morning, Granddaddy! Good morning, Grandmummy!" Skylar greeted happily, blue eyes sparkling with delight. She scrutinized the table seating before choosing the seat next to Queen Samara, and Sky's mother's smile widened while his father looked mildly disappointed, though I glanced at the table and suspected that was because all her favourite breakfast foods were centred at that part of the table.
Sky eagerly moved to take a seat next to Skylar, but was stopped mid-stride by his father who beckoned him to sit by his side. After a little hesitation, I pretended not to see Sky's puppy-eyes and chose to seat myself next to Skylar instead of by his side, much to his dismay. Hey, be glad I even bothered to show hesitation.
I ruffled Skylar's hair fondly as she bounced in her seat, blue eyes shining. "Can I pwease have some bluebewwies and pancakes?" She whispered hopefully.
"Of course, sweetie," I passed her the food, while Sky informed his father of our plans and discussed certain details with him, and Queen Samara cooed over little Skylar.
Skylar's POV
Yay, blueberries!!!
King Erendor's POV
Sky had an irritating amount to say this morning. It's really unbecoming of the Crown Prince of Eraklyon to be so inconsiderate. But still, I listened to his intentions with as much patience as I could muster, despite the fact that I was disinterested as of the moment as I was furthermore invested in what Samara was saying to our granddaughter.
"According to regulation number 136 in the Royal Eraklyonian Rules and Regulations: Guideline for Royals, the engagement ceremony has to take place on a date which is a dual number, so I was thinking..." Sky delivered his thoughts with precision, albeit rather cautiously, but what are you telling me these minor details for? It's your engagement, you're a big boy now, handle your own engagement ceremony! I nodded and grunted agreement absentmindedly to whatever he was saying while I paid attention to our little princess of Eraklyon.
"I love, love, LOVE, bluebewwies!" she beamed as she talked to Samara.
"Really now?" I could catch a glimpse of Skylar nodding enthusiastically from the corner of my eye. Samara lifted the bowl of blueberries away from her grasp as Skylar gasped in dismay. "What will you give me in exchange for the blueberries?" She moved her face to Skylar's proximity and gestured with a cheeky grin. No. She did not just-
Skylar happily gave her grandmother a kiss on the cheek in exchange for her beloved berries. That sly old woman.
"And as for Skylar's first public appearance -" Ah. Yes. Finally something of interest.
"Ah, yes, of course - What kind of tiara would you like, little Eraklyon heir?" I watched as Skylar's eyes widened. Ah, she has her father's eyes.
"I get a tiara?" She breathed in incredulity. "A sparkly one?"
I chuckled, "Why yes, of course, you're second in line to the throne, little one."
"Can it be really, really sparkly?" She asked, tilting her head.
"Yes, the sparkliest."
She bounced in her seat and excitement. That was just adorable.
"Can it be blue?"
"Yes." Well, there's never been a BLUE tiara for any Erakylon royal who preceded her, since the colour of Erakylonian royalty has always been red, but who could say no to her?
"Can Sir Hugsalot have a crown?" Her eyes widened even more, "That's a boy tiara," she added, hopefully.
Sir what?
"Yes, certainly," if the girl wants this sire a crown, a crown shall he have. I don't recall having knighted a House of Hugsalot, though.
"Yay! It has to be blue!" She declared excitedly. "Right, Mummy?" she turned to Princess Bloom, "it has to look the same!"
"Yes, Skylar, it has to match," the second Princess of Domino ruffled my grandaughter's hair fondly. "What do you say to your grandfather?"
"Thank you, grandfather!" she jumped out of her seat and ran around Samara's chair to reach her arms out to me. I smirked smugly to Samara once she was in my arms, reaching for her bowl of blueberries that her mother passed to her over the table.
So what if I lost the battle (Skylar's first kiss of the day)? I won the war (getting to hold Skylar for breakfast).
My queen's eyes glinted beautifully as she promised revenge.
I smiled to myself. I love her.
Skylar shoved a blueberry in my mouth. Samara laughed as it missed and stained my beard.
She's just jealous, that old lady.
