That's all Jeongyeon could hear.
The sirens of the ambulance, making people aware about someone, almost on the verge of leaving this world, to clear the path for the rushing ambulance, so that this dying person could have some hope of living on,
except in this case,
the person had died already.
She was burnt to death.
Jeongyeon sat in front of the dead body in a very enclosed space of the tiny ambulance. It was reeking of nose burning stench and Jeongyeon was sensing every inch of it.
She took Jihyo's hands into hers the moment she sat inside the ambulance, wailing the life out of her, for her Best friend.
Ex-Best Friend now.
Surprisingly, Jihyo's hands were a lot more warm as compared to that of a dead person. It wasn't cold. It was tepid.
It was because of the heat of the fire, that seemed to have submerged itself into Jihyo's burnt body and now refused to break out. Maybe that heat was the last ounce of her soul that refused to let go of her container, her body.
Refused to go away from her love, her heartbeat, Yoo Jeongyeon.
For someone, who lost a dear one, it's a very traumatizing experience. The level of trauma that hits you, when that person dies depends upon the amount of history and connection you have with that person.
For Jeongyeon, Jihyo was the closest one to her. The closest one. Sure they never really talked everyday, or even share a text but, they had each other's back. It was engraved within them. They both were buddies for life, and they promised to be there for each other, no matter what and they fulfilled it too, each and every time. They had best friend tattoos too. In the middle of their chests.
Jeongyeon chuckles.
She tightly grips Jihyo's lifeless arms. She intertwines her fingers with Jihyo's and clasps them shut, as if never wanting to let go. Jihyo's fingers felt slimy and greasy and the stench that had already filled the ambulance should have grossed the fuck out of Jeongyeon, since she is a cleanliness freak, but none of it mattered. It didn't matter, anymore.
To Jeognyeon, this was her very last moment, with the very special someone, of her life.
Jihyo was there after Joy's death. She helped Jeongyeon cope up with everything. Jihyo was the ever charming girl of her middle and high school and even in college, up-to master's degree. These 10 fucking years, withJihyo, serving as her Best Friend were, the best. She thanked her Gods everyday for having such a wonderful daring psychopath in her life.
Jihyo was outgoing and lived her life in the moment. She inspired Jeongyeon to come out of her shell and thanks to her support and mischiefs, Jeongyeon became the person she was today. If someone asked Jeongyeon, the recipe for her success, she would have answered, "A Psychopathic Best Friend." She would have laughed it off.
Both of them knew their bond was unbreakable and they clicked. They jinxed (platonically speaking.)
After Joy's death, Jeongyeon had broken down.
