She couldn't believe her eyes. Her boyfriend, son of Jupiter, the second most handsome guy in the camp, one of the saviours of Olympus, the faithful leader was making out with someone else.
She watched as Jason Grace kissed the someone who wasn't her. The kiss was deep, passionate. The glint in his eyes were undoubtably pure love. Or maybe.... lust?
Tears rolled down her hard red cheeks. Her breathing hitched as she tried to grasp for a reason to not believe it. Any reason. Jason only saw her when she let out a soft whimper.
The blond stammered with his meaningless words. He tried to form a sentence only to fail at every try. He wanted an excuse. But there weren't any. He did it. There is no backing away now.
Before the son of Jupiter could do anything else, she ran away. Away from that cheater she used call her boyfriend. Away. Away. Anywhere, just away.
Her legs carried her to the docks. As soon as she no one was visible, she collapsed. Her lips were trembling. Her eyes had become puffy by now. She couldn't take it. Jason cheated on her with.... with that hag?
She tried to shoo away those happy memories of him. Their first kiss. Their first meeting at New Rome. Memories kept attacking her. They seemed so livid. As if she was still there.
Soft sobs escaped her lips as she suddenly remembered the recent event. She felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey.... you okay?" A calming voice said. She peered at the reflection on the water to find it was Percy. She was surprised. She had never sensed such gentleness in his voice.
"Umm... yeah. I- oh who am I kidding? No I'm not. I'm not fine. I just witnessed the most heart-breaking thing that could ever happen to me become real." She replied. Her voice was a little rough from the lack of use of it since the last few hours.
"What happened? You can tell me, if you are comfortable with it, that is." He said.
"No it's fine. Ummm.... Jason cheated on me."
"Jason... what? I- are you sure? Jason doesn't really fit into that 'cheater' type." He remarked.
"I'm dam sure. Don't believe me, I won't try to prove it. He did that himself." She mumbled the last part.
The next few minutes flew by. The most recent cheater's now-ex-girlfriend leaned a little on Percy. They just sat there. Legs dangling above the water by a few inches. Their eyes gazing the sunset.
She wanted to cry but.... she just couldn't. No tears came. So she just stared as she heard her heart shattering.
"What are you going to do now?" Percy asked.
"I'll go to the place where I met Jason for the first time. New Rome. I'll try to start a new life. Hopefully without cheating bfs." She replied.
Percy just sighed.
"Wait, who did he cheat on you with?" Percy questioned.
"He cheated on m-me with....." She trailed off.
How could she admit it? How could she accept the fact that Jason cheated on her so fast? She loved Jason and how could she change that? How could she utter the name of..... her? The one who was making out with Jason.
"It's okay if you're uncomfortable with the question, Brick. You won't have to tell me." Percy said.
"Stapler," She deadpanned. "Jason cheated on me with Stapler."
She still wasn't used to it.
Jason Grace cheated on Brick with Stapler.
By now it was dark. Percy stood up and helped Brick up. She gazed at the stars one last time before walking towards the dining pavilion.
Brick gathered some courage. Yes, her boyfriend cheated on her. But she is going to show him that she doesn't need him. He was a want, not a need. And she was going to teach it to him.
