    The day has been good so far. It's only second period but I'm already tired. I'm just running on adrenaline now. Conner was in my first period and Dorothy was too!

    We have assigned seats in second period, which is science and I went and sat down. The bell rang and I was still sitting alone at my table in the back.

    I guess I'll just have to sit alone today. To bad my partner isn't here...

    As soon as I thought that, the door flew open and a boy walked in. He was wearing a black leather jacket with a black backpack.

    "Sorry I'm late ma'am." He said to Mrs. Poly, who was the teacher. "I got lost."

     "That's ok." Mrs. Poly replied. "What's your name?"

    "Alex Durshell."

    "Ok Alex, your seat is in the back with Izzy there."

    As he turned around to come sit by me I saw his face for the first time today. My heart skipped a beat. It was the boy from the mall.

    I narrowed my eyes at him, thinking about my lost cinnamon roll. We made eye contact and his widened for a split second before going neutral.

     "You." I whispered to him as he sat down.

     "You." He whispered back.

     "You ruined my cinnamon roll at the mall!" I said still whispering.

     "Yeah yeah yeah, sorry about that, but you know you were the one who smashed into me and got it all over my jacket."

     I glared at him. But as I was opening my mouth to snap out a retort Mrs. Poly interrupted: "Alex, Izzy, did you guys have something to share with the class?"

     "No ma'am." Alex replied. "Just saying hi and getting acquainted."

     I nodded in agreement. This argument could wait till later.

     "Alright then." Said Mrs. Poly, "Now it's time to introduce what we'll be learning about this year..."

~~~
As we were packing up before the bell rang, I looked over at Alex and said to him: "Look, I'm over the whole cinnamon roll thing. Can we just call a truce and start fresh?"
He looked at me, annoyed and shrugged, responding to me by saying: "Sure I don't care."
"Ok then, hi! My names Izzy. What's yours?
"Hello, I'm Alex." He replied, playing along.
Just then the bell rang and as I walked out the door to my next class, Alex grinned and flipped me off with both hands while walking down the hall backwards. I stuck my tongue out at him and turned and walked the other way.
     Damn what a jerk! I'm just trying to start over. Jeez man, have a little decency!
     I walked grumpily to my next class which was history. I don't know why I was so affected by Alex's behavior. After all, we hardly know each other, but a part of me still felt hurt by his actions.
Dorothy was in that class with me and we got to sit next to each other which was nice. She could tell something was bothering me and she gave me a questioning look.
    I leaned toward her and whispered: "I'll tell you at lunch."
     She nodded in response, but for the rest of the class I noticed she kept glancing at me.
~~~~

     "Ok." Dorothy said as we were walking to the lunch line. "Spill."

I looked around nervously, trying to see if Conner or Alex were nearby before saying anything to Dorothy. I didn't want them to hear what I was going to say to her. The lunch room was pretty big with lots of circular tables to sit at and a staircase on either side. At the back of the lunchroom, parallel to where I was standing was the doors that lead outside to where the busses dropped us off. There were lots of people milling around, talking with their friends and eating. I saw someone throw a paper airplane from the upstairs balcony that wrapped around the lunchroom in a semicircle, starting where the stairs led up to the second floor.

I saw Conner a few feet ahead of us in the line but I didn't see Alex anywhere. The line was moving pretty quickly and it was loud but I didn't want to risk him overhearing so I said to Dorothy: "Can we find a spot to sit before I say anything?"

She seemed a little annoyed but she saw that I was looking at Conner and understanding filled her eyes.

"Ok that's fine." Dorothy said with a little smirk in her voice.

We got our lunches and I said to Dorothy: "I'll get the napkins, you go find us a place to sit."

"Alright." She replied, and walked over to the tables to find us a spot to eat.

I turned to grab the napkins, and when I turned around to go find Dorothy, I smacked into someone and my lunch went all over both of us and fell to the ground. I cringed about looking up because I was pretty sure I knew who the person was.

Please don't be him. Please don't be him.

I looked up and his angry gray eyes met mine. My cheeks flushed with embarrassment. It was him.

"Alex." I said.
