Flying on a bison is one of the most magical things I have ever experienced in my life. And that's really saying something, coming from a magical Greek demigod. There's just something about floating through the clouds with the breeze in your hair and relaxing in the blissfully serene atmosphere. Not to mention Appa has some really soft fur.
This is nice. I thought to myself, staring down at the fields of wildflowers below us. You don't really get that kind of view in New York.
It's so beautiful and quiet and-
"Ughhhhhh..." groaned Toph, bored to death. "Can we land soon, Twinkletoes? We've been flying for like six hours!"
"Two and a half," corrected Katara. "We've been flying for two and a half hours."
"Same difference."
Oh, right... I realized, eyes widening. Toph can't 'see' when we're flying. This must be miserable for her.
"We're actually not that far off!" calls Aang from up front. "The Air Temple is only a few more hours from here!" Toph sighs.
"Fiiiiiine..." she groans. "It better be just 'a few more hours', Twinkletoes..."
"Well," Katara scooted over to join our conversation. "Wanna hear about the time Sokka got two fish hooks stuck in his thumb?" Toph snorted.
"Two?!" She laughed. "How in the world did you get two fish hooks stuck in your thumb?"
Sokka blushed. "In my defense, I really thought that the second one would get the first one out!"
We continued to drift along, exchanging jokes and silly stories to keep each other entertained. Eventually, Appa started to slow down from the fatigue, so Aang decided that we should land somewhere to rest.
"How about there?" I said, leaning over the edge of Appa's saddle to point at a little clearing by a stream. Aang shrugged.
"That works." We tried to land, spiraling around the woods, but a thick cloud of black smoke soon arose from below us.
"Uhhhhh..." said Sokka. "Maybe there's already some campers there?"
I nodded, but I could tell that we were all a little uneasy. Judging by the maps I'd seen, this place was really, really far away from any cities or villages.
Oh, well. I thought. People go on long road trips back home, so why wouldn't they here?
"It's okay, guys, let's just find another place to set up camp." Aang was right. We started to fly in another direction
I guess really anywhere would work, since we have all the supplies. I smiled softly. I really lucked out to enc up with these guys.
But all my thoughts were interrupted when the smoke moved towards us. A giant blue bolt of lightning lit up the sky for a split second.
"Am I the only one who just saw that?" I asked, looking nervously towards my friends.
"Yes." replied Toph. "Care to describe?"
"I have absolutely no idea what is going on right now." I stated. "Sorry." I looked over at the other three teens.
"Any ideas?" Katara looked slightly nervous, but the rest of her face was contorted with rage. Sokka scowled and pulled out his boomerang.
"We're being followed." He explained solemnly.
"I've gathered that, thanks!" I responded sarcastically. "Any more details to share with the rest of the class?"
"We're being followed," He repeated. "By Princess Azula of the Fire Nation."
Oh, crap.
