Katara had left me some clothes before she left, which looked a lot like hers. Wrinkling my nose, I realized they were smelly and torn in places. I assumed they must be some of Sokka's. Squinting at the bright light, I walked outside to see Aang and Toph packing the campsite up.
"Hey Percy!!!" Aang said, running over before instantly taking a step back. "Whoa, you stink."
"Katara gave me some of Sokka's clothes." I responded, glowering at her and Toph, who were laughing hysterically.
"You didn't wash them first?!?" Sokka said, emerging red-faced from behind Appa. Katara narrowed her eyebrows.
"Well, it's not MY fault that someone can't wash their own clothes!" She retorted hotly. Sokka's threw his hands up exasperated.
"Katara that's YOUR job! Men like me go out and fight and kick butt while girls sew and cook and-- Don't look at me like that! I don't know what you guys do all day!"
"WHAT!?!" Katara screeched, clenching her fists. "Now you listen here, you slimy three-headed son of a--"
Aang and I inched away, deciding it best to not get involved.
"Are they always like this?" I whispered to him, slightly terrified at Katara's expression. He nodded before continuing to load Appa's saddle with supplies.
Not long after we'd bended everything up, a deafening sound echoed through the trees.
"ENOUGH!!" Toph yelled, bending a solid wall of earth between the two siblings. "You two have been at this all morning, and I for one would like to get going.
"Where to?" I asked, curious. Aang's eyes lit up.
"The Northern Water Tribe. They're the next best thing in spiritual and celestial stuff, next to the Air Nomads. They might know how you got here, and even how to get you back!"
"Well, why don't we just visit them then?" I asked. His demeanor deflated. Katara placed her hand on Aang's shoulder.
"The Fire Nation didn't just eliminate the Southern Air Nomads a hundred years ago. They killed ALL OF THEM. Aang is the only one left."
I sat there, shocked, as feelings of hate and grief and anger swirled around me. This kid was only twelve years old, and everyone he knew and loved was gone.
"Aw.." Aang said. "I'm okay now. If all this terribly bad stuff didn't happen, I never would've met you guys! Now bring it in." He said, and we all gave him a big hug.
"uh.. gUyS!?" Aang said, squished. "We need to go NOW if we want to make it to the Northern Water Tribe before I'm 40." We all laughed at that and climbed up onto the bison.
Here we go! I thought as we floated through the air. I have a feeling this is going to be a journey to remember.
