Chapter 2
Let’s lie
“What?!!!” His mother and I blurted out simultaneously disbelieving him. I blinked a few times trying to see if this was a dream or nightmare...
It wasn’t.
I stared at him with wide eyes, but his gaze was fixed towards his mother.
His mother scoffed offended. “Nate, honey, how could, this be your girlfriend?” His mother asked him coldly with an edge of insult. I gritted my teeth together when I heard her say “this.” I know she just didn’t say “this” to me! This old hag who had makeup from the 99 cent store all over her wasted face said that to me. Anger flared through my veins.
I tried to take a step forward, but Nate squeezed my waist not letting me. For a split second, I had forgotten he was here and that that was his mother. I tried to swallow my anger.
“I am his girlfriend,” I said trying to hide my anger looking at her straight and head on, slightly narrowing my eyes. I placed my left hand on top of Nate’s and intertwining his with mine giving it little squeezed, I felt him return it. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.” I stretch out my right hand to shake hers, but that witch looked at my hand like it was worse than dirt, immediately I dropped my hand.
How ironic, for someone who looked decent she wasn’t descent enough to hide her rude gestures.
“Nate, honey,” she sweetly said walking towards him ignoring me on the process. She tried to smile, but kept her eyes glued to his, pleading. “Please, tell me that you’re joking and that that girl isn’t you girlfriend.”
I looked from his mother to his face then back and forth wanting to see their expression. Nate had his perfectly composed and sincere, while his mother looked as if she was going to explode from rage or something. I noticed that her left eye slightly twitched at the bottom as she had a fake smile plastered on her face.
“Am afraid that’s the truth, mother,” Nate coldly stated with an edge of harshness. “Now if you will excuse me mother, I need to go and drop off my girlfriend to her house.” He began to pull my away as he took a step forward. The expression on her mother was priceless. She was shocked beyond words as her jaw dropped open. I turned away as we walked linked together –bodies glued to one another. I glance up at Nate, but couldn’t read anything because it was vacant of emotions.
“Thanks,” he said once we reached the parking lot away from his mother sight. He let go of me and took a step aside in front of me. He sighed as he ran his long white fingers through his long hair looking anywhere but my questioning gaze. I stared at him while tightly gripping my textbooks to keep me from shaking.
Am I dreaming? I asked myself inside. After a couple of long nerve wrecking minutes he unwillingly brought his bright baby blue eyes to mine. I inhaled sharply as I found myself staring into the pleading look he had lingering in those eyes and face. He brought both his hands in front of his face and held them, pleading.
“Please, I need you to play along with me, please,” he sounded desperate. My heart pounded loud against my lungs as my eyes widen like donuts. I unwillingly took a step back –away from him.
“Please,” he whispered desperate even more as he took a step forward towards me. He looked like he was about to start cry from the desperation he had. It screamed in every inch of his body. I was witnessing something rare because this was out of character from the “Cool Nate” that entire school knew. I was speechless –my voice left me.
