Chapter 6
A threat or the beginning of a dirty lie?
~Janice~
I bit my bottom lip trying to push away the flutter in my stomach. Even if it was my first kiss I should take it as nothing, I thought to myself as I took an unsecure step towards him. My heart accelerated with each step I took closer to him.
“Nate,” I whispered trying to make my voice sound hard and controlling, but instead it came out shaking and fragile. I cleared my voice and repeated his name. He was still sleeping like a log.
Sighing I hovered above him while I poked his right cheek, “Nate, get up. My mom will come home soon and I don’t want any trouble.” Nate frowned in his sleep as he slapped my hand away.
“Go away,” he murmured. He turned around as his back faced mine. He mumbled some words that I could not understand.
“NATE!” I hollered at him as I shook him. He grabbed my waist and pulled me to him as I as fell on top of him, our nose almost touching. He blinked surprised at our approximately.
“Sorry,” he quietly said as he let go of me. I quickly stood up as I scratched the back of my hair.
“It happens,” I responded as he stood up from the couch stretching his arms. “You need to go my mother will be here in any minute.” He nodded as he walked towards the door. I walked with him as I stared his back. All of the sudden he turned around and pulled me into a tight hug. Air whooshed out of me from the impact.
“Thanks for not rejecting me,” he said. “It means a lot to me.”
I smiled as I wrapped my arms around his back, “you’re welcome.” He chuckled as he let go of me and began to open the door when the sound of a car pulling up the driveway frozen us in place. He mirrored my terror in his eyes.
“Hide,” I said as I grabbed his hand and led him towards my room. “Just stay low for a while.” He nodded as I closed the door and hurried downstairs. I took a deep breath trying to calm myself. I sung the door open as wide as it could go and greeted my mother.
“You’re home early,” I said smiling. “Was there any work?”
She smiled as she hugged me. “Actually, I need to leave tonight for business. I just came to get some clothes and all the other stuff.” She began to walk upstairs as something loud fell from my room.
“What was that?!” My mother asked alarmed. My eyes widen as she placed her left hand on the doorknob of my bedroom door.
“AH! Mom don’t go in there,” I panicked as I grabbed her wrist. “I invited a friend over and she’s probably changing.”
She stared at me surprised, “a friend? Janice you never invite friends over.”
“I did now,” I quickly said as I tried to compose myself. “Um, we had a small talk in the living room and she accidently spilled water on herself so I told her to change into one of my clothes.” I tried to speak normally and casual but my words came out hurried and scared.
She frowned when I pounded my teeth together. “Okay.” She released her hand from the door knob as she walked towards her room. “Make sure she’s okay.” She called out as she closed the door to her bedroom.
“Sure,” I called back as I quickly opened the door entering swiftly inside. My room was pitch black, it took my eyes seconds to adjust.
“Nate?” I whispered. My eyes darted everywhere, but he was nowhere to be found.
