[Written in Blair's POV]
If I were given the authority to handle employment affairs, I would ban overtime work. My body was so exhausted to the point I might fall face-flat on the slippery ground not being able to continue walking on this unfortunate rainy day. The city was busy as it always was, considering the time to be close to eleven in the night.
My mind kept wondering to the newly uploaded chapters of my favourite web novel series and my legs decided to walk faster with precision. Currently, I was standing at the crossway to pass the road to my apartment with the red light on. Suddenly, the green light appeared.
I took my steps unconsciously and ran with my umbrella tight in my slouched palm. Just as I was near the end of the white lines something hit me hard and I lost my grip on my umbrella. Lights blinded my eyes and I closed them unable to take in the powerful vision blaring at my eyes. I felt myself falling backwards with no control.
I tried to right myself up, but my body was refusing my commands. I attempted to move my dominant arm, only to splash it in a puddle of mucky liquid. Adrenaline rushing, I opened an eye but what awaited me created goosebumps in my skin. My arm was squashed in a puddle of red liquid that smelled awful. I realized it was blood. What kind of a thriller situation am I trapped in? My body was exhausted and now it felt like someone was ripping it apart without mercy.
That was when I saw the huge delivery truck stopped in the middle of the road. Police cars and sirens kept deafening my ears and I noticed that my left arm was gushing blood out to the pavement. I got hit by a truck just like the characters that get isekai'd in Korean manhwas! But that thought was interrupted with the fear of dying and I realized that was just my wishful thinking during my last moments. Giving up trying to resist the pain, I accepted that my life was over and awaited the next event.
Another flashing light blared my eyes and a scream to my left ear jolted me up. Was the afterlife always so noisy and tumbling? Can't I have some peace even after death?
"Miss Rose! Miss Rose!!! Everyone she's awake. Our miss Rose is safe." A woman in a maid outfit shouted. Two other maids jumped and ran to her with pleading eyes. I rubbed my eyes and short circuited at the image the mirror in front of me viewed. A brown haired angel with clear eyes looked back at me.
"What?! What is that?" My mouth gawked out.
"What are you saying miss? You fell into the river while taking a midnight stroll and master Richard saved you." Wait! What the hell are they talking about? Didn't I just die getting hit by a gigantic truck? What the heck is happening here?!
I brought a skinny hand to my cheek and rubbed the skin. I pinched it and it resulted in a painful yelp from the rosy lips of the mirror image which in due time, I realized, was from me. The door banged open to two identical boys and a fashionable lady running towards the bed I was residing in.
"Rose! You are awake. You were unconscious for a week? Oh my baby, I thought you left us." The lady exclaimed. Did she say Rose?! Did I get reincarnated? I took a swift look at the mirror in front and realized that this body belongs to the duke's daughter Rose from the best selling novel back at home. Also this is the body of the villainous fiancée of the crown prince that was ultimately executed for bullying the female lead. Oh no!!! Why did I get reincarnated to a body of the villain when I could have been a mere supporting character?
"Well, she's alive at least." A boy retorted.
"Robert, shut up! Why are you so rude to your sister?" The lady whom I assumed was Rose's adoptive mum scolded. So, the two boys were Rose's or 'my' twin older brothers. Great! Now, all I have to do is wait and get executed by that arrogant crown prince.
"Mum...umm...How old am I?" I asked meekly.
"Darling, you are 15 now. Just one more year for your debut." The lady said. So, that means by one year I will die at the sword of the commander of knights while being accused of bullying Lily (the female lead). Oh for heavens' sake! Why are you all so cruel? Couldn't you let me live a commoner's life in the least? Wait a minute!!!
I can be a commoner. Lily was replaced by Rose when she went missing at the age of 8 during a festival. When she miraculously turns up at the Crown prince's birthday celebration, she can take her rightful place at the duke's family. All I have to is escape from here and live in the countryside. Bingo! I can make a savings account and live off it's interest and do a part time job and live simply and happily avoiding the tragic end. Since the duke or the family hardly cares about Rose, they won't even notice me gone. Hah?! I never knew I was this smart!
"Ok sweetie, you rest up! We'll be going now." The lady scooted off the brothers and left the room in a hurry. The maids brought a water basin and held it out for me. I will execute my plan right now and live a peaceful life without over-working myself this time.
