I couldn't pay attention for the rest of the day, I tried to talk to Lucy but she ignored me. What did I do? That is all I wanted to know. The last bell rang so I decided to take a walk to the back of the school, tears streaming silently down my face. Sasha was there, just the person I wanted to see.
"Can I have one?" I asked. She had a cigarette hanging loosely out of the corner of her mouth. She still had her uniform on but her blouse was only half way buttoned up.
"Sure," she said taking a pack of Malabo's out of her purse. She gave me the pack and a small lighter with a smiley face on the end of the fluid tube. I had never smoked before so I took one out of the pack and lit the end, took a deep breath and put it up to my lips and inhaled. I started coughing violently feeling dizzy on my feet. What are you doing to yourself? I handed her the cigarette and walked away still feeling woozy. As I rounded the corner I ran smack into someone. I fell backwards hitting my head on the concrete. I look up and see who it is, Dylan. I vomit over my side. I couldn't tell if it was from the smoke or from hitting my head, possibly both.
"Shai! Are you okay,oh my god, ew, um.. oh god your head is bleeding." I raise my hand to the back of my head and look at my hand. It's covered in blood. Great.
"Here let me help you up, I'll take you to the hospital." He stuck his hand out and helped me up. When I stand I wobble on my feet and almost fall over, until Dylan puts his hand around my waist and steadies me.
"Do you smell like smoke?" he said a frown growing on his face.
"I didn't have you put as that kind of girl."
"I- I don't I just wanted to try it, I wanted to forget-" but then I realized who I was talking too. He stops walking and looks at me.
"Forget what?"
"Forget.... never mind that, what are you doing helping me? I thought you didn't want to be friends anymore?"
We walk in silence out of the school gates and into the parking lot. He walks me over to his car which is an old green Toyota. I didn't know he had a car but he walks me over to the passenger side and opens the door and helps me in, my head pounding. He then walks around the car and into the drivers seat.
"What would make you think I don't want to be friends anymore?" he says almost angrily as we are pulling onto the freeway.
"Well I probably thought that because that is what you said today at lunch." my head was pounding and the feeling of the dams breaking behind my eyes were not helping my case. He said starring ahead looking for something.
"What are you looking for?" I ask.
"Did you not hear the rest of what I said?" he asks looking surprisingly, concerned.
My head pounded and I let out a small whimper.
"You okay?"
I wasn't but I didn't want to sound weak so I said,
"I'm fine. What do you mean the rest of what you said? You said that and then the bell rang and you got up and left with Lucy." A sharp pain went through my head and down my back. I let out another whimper. What was wrong with me?
"Obviously you are not. Just don't talk, I'll find a hospital somewhere."
"You don't know where the hospital is?!?"
"Um, no but there has to be one around."
My vision was starting to get warm and black around the edges.
"Please hurry, I think I'm going to pass out."
and then everything went black before he could tell me the rest of what he said.
