Demi
Everything around me, is confusing. I can't remember anything, even my name. The world is blurry, I reconize no buildings or faces. I've been lying in this hospital bed for hours, trying to close my eyes and visualize anything thats even remotely familiar. Someone had dressed me in s t-shirt and sweats, but nothing about them was comforting.
"Hello Demi."
I looked up as a doctor walked in, was that me?
"I understand this must be very confusing and hard to process and comprehend right now, but you've suffered from amnesia."
My eyes widened, "What?"
He smiled a bit, "You were in a car crash, hit from head on in the passanger seat of the car. Your name is Demi Lovato, you are a singer, and have millions of fans around the world. I know this is a lot being thrown at you at once, but if you have any questions...?"
I nodded, I had hundreds, "You said that I was in the passanger seat when I got hit?" He nodded, "Who was driving?"
The doctor sighed, "It was your husband, Wilmer Valerrama."
My breath caught, "I'm married?"
He nodded, "He hasn't left the hospital this entire time, two weeks, waiting for you to wake up."
I bit my lip, a motion that seemed familiar, a habit, "Can I see him?"
My doctor seemed confused for a second, "Y-Yes, of course."
He walked out and I settled back against the pillows, looking at my hands, I wasn't wearing any jewelry, but the tanline one my left ring finger was evidence I'd been wearing it for a long time. The door cracked open, and a dark hair man with kind brown eyes stepped in.
"Demi?"
I sat up straight, still getting used to my name, "Come in."
He stepped into the room and sat int he chair next to my bed, "Hi."
My teeth once again sunk into my lower lip, "Hi."
He looked so hopeless that it made me want to cry, even though I had recognition of him at all.
"So you... don't have any idea who I am?" He murmured, and I shook my head.
"I'm sorry." I could feel tears coming to my eyes, why did this have to happen to me?
He smiled and shook his head, "It's okay Demi, it's not your fault. I'm not gonna give up on you, or us.... That is, if you want me to."
I shook my head, "I want to rememeber."
Wilmer smiled, "I guess I wouldn't mind falling in love with you all over again."
I bit my lip, "So what happens now?"
He shrugged, "You can go back to your old house in Texas with your parents, to be with your family, or we can go back to our house together. The doctor said it's best to keep you in familiar environments to minimize your stress levels and keep you in your normal routine so there's a bigger chance your memory comes back."
I nodded, "I guess I'll go back with you then... Better to be around once unfamiliar person than a bunch."
Wilmer nodded and stood up, "I'll go tell them you decision, and then let them in one at a time."
I smiled softly, wringing my hands together, "Okay."
He stood up, then hesistated for a second and leaned down, pressing his lips to my forehead. Then, walked out. A few minutes later, an older woman with tears in her eyes, walked in.
"Oh my God Demi." She said, collapsing into the chair Wilmer had just left. She gripped my hand, "I'm your mom baby." I smiled at her, hugging her back when she threw herself in my arms, "I'm so sorry." She blubbered, pulling away and wiping at her eyes, "I know this must be so confusing for you demi."
I nodded, "Just a bit."
She leaned forward, stroking my hair and I suddenly felt a sense of calmness wash over me, as though this action was something that brought me peace, a memory rooted deep somewhere in my childhood,"You must have so many questions."
I nodded, "Right again.... the doctor said I'm a singer? How big? How well am I known?"
My mom leaned in, "Demi, your dreams came true. Ever since you were a little girl all you wanted to do was be on stage. You had your big break, and you were thrust into the limelight. It was hard on you. You were on a downward spiral, and ended up in rehab, for an eating disorder and self harm."
I slowly lifted my hand, covering my mouth with my hand in horror, "What?"
She nodded and look my left wrist, turning it over for me to see. It was covered with faded white lines, a prominent black ink tattoo stood out, corresponding with me other wrist.
"Stay strong." I read aloud, my eyes tracing over the words on my skin.
"Those were words you repeated over and over again in your head, and aloud. It was the fans that got you through it, and Wilmer. God, the day you and Wilmer started dating, your world changed. He was your sun... I had never seen you that happy. I'd never seen you smile so wide, or laugh so loud, except when he was around. He brought out the Demi we all knew was inside of you. You two loved each other with an intensity I've never seen before, and I doubt I will ever see again in two other people."
