I woke up to knocking on my door. I groaned and looked at the clock which read 7:30. Ugh, it's way too early to be up. The persistent knocking started again.
"What?" I called out not bothering to get up.
"Coach just called and said we might be getting a new team member." I heard Charlie's voice through the door.
"Who is it?" I asked, finally getting up and opening the door.
"I don't know. He just said to let everyone know." Charlie shrugged.
"Alright, well I guess we better let everyone know." I said turning back to my room.
"Way ahead of you." Charlie smiled.
I looked at him confused then looked at his feet and saw he was already wearing his skates.
"Okay, just give me a minute." I say.
"You'll need more than a minute to get your hair under control." Charlie teased.
"Oh shut up." I said playfully, narrowing my eyes at him.
He just laughed and left me to get ready. Once dressed, hair brushed, and teeth brushed I made my way to the kitchen. I grabbed an apple and held it in my mouth while I put my skates on. Once I finished that Charlie and I headed out the door.
For a few hours we skated around finding our friends, telling them about getting a new member, and then of course we fooled around for a bit. I saw hoping I would see Adam while we were out, but then remembered they were probably at practice.
"Hey Charlie, do you think our new member is a transfer or someone completely new?" I asked him as we skated home.
"I don't know. I think he said we knew who it was." Charlie answered.
"Well, that doesn't narrow it down. Do you think he meant someone we know from hockey or not?" I asked even though I knew he didn't know the answer.
He just shrugged. "I just hope its not a Hawk."
I rolled my eyes.
Later we found ourselves in the locker room getting ready for our next game.
"Going to the play-offs! Whoo!" I heard someone say.
As I was getting ready I couldn't help but notice that everyone but Jesse and Peter were getting dressed. They were still in their normal clothes. And Terry was only half dressed, like someone had to him to stop halfway. The only equipment Jesse had on were his gloves as he was playing with his stick. Peter had his Duck jersey resting on his legs. I thought about going over and asking what was up, but before I could interrupted by Coach coming in the locker room.
"Hey, why aren't you guys in uniform? We got warm-ups in half an hour?" I heard Coach ask Jesse and Peter. That's what I want to know.
Jesse and Peter just looked at each other for a moment before Coach decided to address the rest of us.
"Alright, everyone, listen up. I got some good news. Our new player is Adam Banks." Coach said. At that my jaw dropped and Charlie looked over at me with a shocked expression. I almost couldn't suppress the smile that was trying to creep onto my face.
As I was trying to hide my happiness everyone else was groaned in annoyance.
"He's a Hawk." Karp said. The way he said it made it seem like that was the only good reason not to have him.
"He's a good player." I said. At that everyone looked at me like I had grown three heads. Great, I should have kept my mouth shut.
"Everyone hates him." Jesse said in disgust.
