I was being led down a long, dark hallway that was lit by torches.

I had an uneasy feeling in my gut that continued to worsen the deeper the secretary and I walked into the castle. I kept my concern to myself, however, because I had much more important matters at hand.

The castle was just the same as it was three and a half months ago, when I first visited with my mom, dad, and brother. It was mid-August, and Italy was the last stop of our vacation abroad before returning home to Denver, Colorado.

Unfortunately, I was the only one who made it out alive.

Since that day, my life had become a living hell. Instead of dying with my family, I was saved by one of the most powerful vampires in the coven, Alec, who claimed me as his mate. We escaped to Washington state, got together, almost immediately broke up, and then went our separate ways.

If you count my boyfriend abandoning me in a forest full of werewolves as "going our separate ways".

Regardless, I prevailed. I may have gotten mauled by a werewolf, and accidentally killed a few people along the way, but I survived.

So, there I was, returning to where it all began in order to claim what was rightfully mine.

Vengeance.

Those vampires underestimated me, including my mate, and I was going to make them pay for it. I was going to make them regret the very day they were turned, even if it was the last thing I did.
