I went blind, sorry

I'm blind.

It was a cold winter night when it happened. I woke up at what I thought was sometime around two in the morning and looked to my clock for the actual time. I couldn't see it, so I got up to turn on my light.

I flipped it on, off, on, off, and tried at least twice more. It wouldn't turn on. I glanced to the stairs, where I could usually see some light from streetlights seeping in from the kitchen windows. Only to find it wasn't there.

Immediately, panic flooded my veins. Where was the light? Why wouldn't my light turn on? I couldn't see it - I couldn't see anything. I couldn't see anything. I ran into my mom's room and shook her awake, nearly in tears.

"I'm blind," I told her. "I can't see anything." I choked up at the words.

"No, the power's just out, dumb child."
