Overwhelmed

My heart was hammering so hard I thought it would leap up my throat and out my mouth as I gave Linda Harzenstroff's name to the bouncer at La Lune's door. I gave the sinner what I hoped was a cool smile as I gripped Striker's arm even tighter than I already was. I was sure we weren't going to get a step further, but relief washed over me as the bouncer checked something off on his clipboard and motioned for us to go on in.

Glancing up at Striker, I saw him flash me a rakish grin, "Almost there, darlin'."

I had to admit, La Lune in all its pageantry was a sight to behold. A band was playing on the stage, every glass surface glittered like a million diamonds, and the entire place smelled...expensive. Had I not been here on a mission, I would have been overwhelmed by it all.

Striker and I accepted a glass of champagne as we entered the ballroom we had inspected just a few weeks ago. Hell's social elite was milling about, chatting with each other about who knew what. Leaning in so that he could whisper in my ear, Striker said, "Go to the window and make sure it's unlatched. I'll go set up to eliminate the target."
