We pull up to a gorgeous set of apartment buildings. The brickwork is delicate and detailed and large windows gaze towards Paris and all of it's nighttime busyness. Each apartment has it's own small balcony with patterned black railing hovering over the street. As I take all aspects of apartment complex I fail to notice Villanelle get out of the car and open the door for me.
She holds out her hand and I take it, as she leads me out of the car. The air is cool and despite my coat I feel myself shivering. Villanelle notices and wraps half her coat around me, her hand slung gently around my neck. I feel her warm body pressed up against me and feel surprisingly calm.
We walk into the building cuddled into each other until we enter the lift. She lets go of me to push the lift button and I feel my heart sink, how have I grown an attachment to someone I just met?
"What's so special about the 5th floor?" I ask, puzzled as to why a rich and luxurious women like herself wouldn't choose the penthouse. "I don't like people knowing where I live and the penthouse would be their first guess, don't you agree? I like to be a bit unexpected."
The doors ding open and we arrive in her apartment. Gorgeous vintage furniture decorates the room and a few paintings line the walls. "This is beautiful!" I say, "Thank you, now can I get you anything? Tea, wine?" she asks, "whatever your'e having" I call out.
I take a seat on a dark blue satin couch and she hands me a cup of tea. She takes a seat next to me on the couch, and the conversation begins to flow.
