Aphrodite

Aphrodite looked down at Onyx with a sullen expression and he sighed.

"You ready?" She shook her head.

"When am I ever ready?" But she still continued to follow him through the foyer until they reached outside to where the rest of their small family waited, along with close friends of the kingdom.

Kratos was the first to greet them with a small smile. "I have come with good news... and bad news." She sighed softly.

"Can these wait after we release the lanterns?" She said to the Fae King and he nodded, letting them have their one day a year where they grieved. The day when her daughter was taken. The day when her heart shattered to pieces. But Kratos made it his mission to help her grieve no more. Since he had a suspicion that took him years to voice out, not wanting to get her hopes up.

Lucifer and Lucian held their mate as Markus finished lighting the candles, still in mourning for their daughter. Everyone's lanterns were soon airborne, lighting the sky like bright stars.

When the moment had ended, Aphrodite couldn't help but break down in tears as she entered the castle, not being able to take another year of heartbreak. 36 years. 36 years of unhappiness. 36 years of fake smiles. 36 years of pretending. 36 years of crying over a child she finally accepted she wouldn't get back. This year would be her last year. It would be her last year of hoping for her baby's return. It would be her last year of heartache.

The goddess dried her tears and joined the small festival she decided to throw. She decided that it was no use to continue crying. She decided to celebrate her small child's life in honor of the few years they did have together. Her eyes were puffy as she joined Kane, who stood away from the group of people.

"Kratos is upstairs and says it's really urgent." She rolled her eyes before nodding. The room became bright and joyous as the family began to participate in the games and dancing, for once not feeling guilty for enjoying themselves.

Later in the night, they all gathered with a tense Kratos in the room. She looked at his wary figure with confusion as she sat with the rest of her children and mates present.

"What is the urgent matter Uncle K? It is late and I need my beauty sleep," Sierra said as she sat next to Onyx since she never had a good relationship with any of her parents or other siblings.

"You cannot attack the kingdom in the North." He stated. Kane snorted as if his uncle was a madman.

"We need the area, Kratos. And besides, it's ruled by a boy. Whoever his father has already taken over the Entire Southern Hemisphere along with many places in the West. It won't take long until they come east and try to kill us all-" Aphrodite's voice was stern as she tried to reason but he only interrupted.

"If you kill that boy you will regret it for the rest of your life, Aphrodite. For he is no regular boy."

Lucifer growled at the threat of his words and so did her other two mates as she glared at the man she trusted to look into the boy in the first place. "I could care less who the hell he is." She sneered.

"He is your grandson." His words made the room so quiet that a needle could be heard if it dropped on their carpet flooring.

"That's impossible..." She said. Onyx hadn't met his mate yet and Sierra hadn't either. Kane had only met his mate two months ago but they hadn't planned on having any children yet.
