"Looks like you beat me, baby." Karube's laughter echoed through the dusty room.

I jerked awake, my heart pounding. But it wasn't my husband's last words that woke me.

No. Someone had touched me. I still felt it on my bare thigh.

My room was dark, quiet. I lay still. And then I heard it. The quiet intake of a breath.

I gasped and sat up, flipping on the lamp beside my bed. Bright light flooded the room.

He stood at the end of my bed.

Niragi.

Dressed all in black just like at the pool, a rifle resting on his shoulder.

"How did you get in here?" I asked, drawing the blankets around me.

He pointed the weapon at me, then used it to push the bedding away from my legs, murmuring something under his breath.

I replaced the blankets, curling my legs beneath me, but he advanced and swept them off the bed. I wore nothing but a t-shirt and panties.

"Get out!" I shouted at him.

He just sneered and bent over me, grabbing my jaw and pushing me back against my pillow. "Where are you from, kitten?" he asked.

When I tried to struggle out of his grasp, he pressed his body against mine, holding me in place.

"Where are you from?" he asked again.

"T-Tokyo..."

"That's not what I mean." He raked his eyes down my body.

"I'm American," I whispered, too scared to speak any louder.

He dipped his face toward mine and trailed his tongue up my cheek, making me wince and shudder.

"I can taste your fear, little kitten." His voice had an edge to it.

"Wh-what do you want?" I stuttered.

"Isn't it obvious?" Niragi dug his fingers into my thigh and pressed his hardness against me. "Life is short here. No point in wasting it."

He reached for the band of my panties.

"N-no..." I struggled beneath him.

Just then the radio on his person crackled. "Niragi. What's your twenty?"

He growled and ripped the radio from his belt. "I'm busy! What do you want?"

"Boss is looking for you."

"Fuck." He jumped off the bed and headed toward the door. "We'll play later, little kitten." With a swipe of his tongue around his mouth and a wink, he was gone.

I remained as I was, listening to see if he'd return. My pulse thudded in my ears. When several minutes passed with no sign of him, I dragged the blankets back on the bed and made a nest to hide in. The lamp stayed on the rest of the night.

The next morning when I awoke, I wasn't sure what to do. I put on the swimwear I had been given along with a silky wrap. The swimwear was required attire while at The Beach.

Staring at myself in the mirror, I thought of Karube. He would have loved this outfit on me. The rainbow zebra-striped bikini was held only by slender strings. I was glad to have the wrap so I didn't feel so exposed, but I had to admit the bikini was sexy. It looked good with my auburn hair. I closed my eyes and imagined my husband coming up behind me to run his hands along my exposed skin. A moan escaped me at the thought, but it was quickly replaced by grief as I realized I'd never feel him do that again.
