Kelsey's POV:

Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" begins to play from the car stereo as I drive through town. I turn it up a bit since it was one of my favorite songs from my favorite band. The town was pretty nice, not too big or too small. It's just a seemingly nice, quiet town, and every corner I turn to everyone has a big smile plastered on their face.

I can't tell if they're all real or fake, I think to myself.

It's true, every time I look out the window, it seems like almost everybody's smiles seem forced. Like someone was telling them to stay that way. But then again, it could just be me and my eyes are playing tricks on me.

Normal Valley. Now I understand where it got its name from.

Not one thing was out of place, no matter where I looked; everyone was average-looking with a smile on their face, their clothes were not out of place, just going about their business. Including all the kids, who are all hanging out at either the playground or the town square. I wonder if there's a mall here. I don't usually go there unless completely necessary, like for some new clothes. Not like I would stay there to wait up for friends, and everyone would look at me weird to find me there all by myself, but I never cared.

Kind of.

I drive around the town square, trying to find the grocery store, but along the way, I look over and see a tall brick building and people gathered around it. It must be the City Hall, and it looks like a press conference about something was going on.

I stop my car in front of it and see that I was right; a round, white-haired man (his hair much more lighter than mine) with glasses and dressed elegantly in a dull gray suit and tie walks up onstage and speaks into the microphone. I don't hear what he's saying, so I pull up in the parking lot and find a spot. I cut the engine and get out and begin walking towards the crowd, never tearing my gaze away from the stage. Some of the people stop and look at me, but I don't acknowledge them as I keep my eyes on the man, who I'm guessing is the Mayor, and join the crowd.

They were discussing about something very important.

"Mr. Mayor! What are you planning on doing with the scary old house in the woods?" One of the people interviewing him asks from somewhere in the crowd.

Old house in the woods? Are they talking about the one around my house? They have to be since it seems to be only forest here.

"Nothing for you all to worry about," the Mayor speaks into the microphone, his voice sounding a little overconfident and a bit too pompous, a smug smile on his wrinkled face. "I will make sure that freak is out of there and out of town soon enough, and that house will be destroyed. No longer will it be an issue to us, including the children of our beloved town. But like I have mentioned before and I will say it again; no one is allowed to step foot into those woods."

A roar of questions fill the air as soon as he was done with his statement. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. What is he talking about an old house in the woods?

"Any other questions?" The Mayor asks amongst the chatter, and I turn around, beginning to leave. Somehow, his eyes must've averted to me and seen me at the end of the crowd, because the next thing I know, I hear;

"You there! Young lady."

I freeze in my tracks and all eyes are on me again, my heart beginning to race. I do my best to pretend that I wasn't even noticing or paying attention as I subconsciously look ahead of me and then turn back around towards the stage, where the Mayor is watching me like a hawk, and point at myself.

"Yes, you! Who are you? Come up here!" He demands. I shake my head, my cheeks heating up. I don't really have stage fright but I didn't want to follow his orders. There's something about him that I didn't like, even from the letter that was delivered to me his words were harsh.
