oikawa glanced at his phone for the nth time that night. it's been an entire day, and he heard nothing else from milkbread-chan.

he was worried. he had her on his mind the entire day and even got distracted a bit during practice. even iwaizumi noticed.

he sighed.

instead of continuing to pace around again for hours, he grabbed his phone, dialed the number and made the call.

the call rang for a few moments, before it was finally answered.

there was a bit of shuffling on the other end before a weak, raspy voice flooded through his phone's speakers.

"moshi-moshi?"

hearing her voice gave him two conclusions.

one, milkbread-chan is a girl.

and two, milkbread-chan is sick.

her weak voice and subtle sniffling on the other end convinced him of the second one.

"mir-chan." he voiced out the shortcut of his nickname for her— mirukupan-chan (milkbread-chan). "hey."

there was a shocked gasp on the other end before a bunch of shuffling started. there was a long pause before it sounded like she had picked up her phone after dropping it.

".. toorū? toorū oikawa?" her voice called out in disbelief.

oikawa's brows furrowed together in confusion. it sounded like she didn't even see the caller id before she answered the call. was she that sick that she didn't have spatial awareness at present?

"yeah, it's me." oikawa answered, a bit shaken from hearing her voice. "you sound sick, what happened?"

there was a loud cough followed by sniffling. "ah, it's nothing."

"why'd you—" she sneezed. "— call?"

oikawa's brows remained knitted together in worry as he looked around his room. he was lying down on his bed after a tiring day of school and volleyball practice.

"i just—" he paused, not knowing the answer himself.

why did he call her?

moreover..

why did the sudden change in her manner of texting bother him to the extent that it'd push him to call her?

he blinked out of his reverie when he realized that he had zoned out mid-sentence. he cleared his throat. "i just.. wanted to check on you."

"oh.." she said.

then, there was a sound of a door opening and closing on the other end. there was more shuffling before oikawa heard a muffled voice.

"it's time for your paroxetine." were the words muffled, but he managed to make it out.

he blinked. paroxetine— that sounded a lot like a name for a medicine. he noted that he should look it up after this phone call.

he blinked again. that..

that's a guy's voice.

oikawa looked at his right hand that was unoccupied, as his left was the one holding his phone to his ear.

that's a guy's voice.

there was shuffling again before he heard the phone being put down. then, the girl's voice was heard.

"i'm currently on the phone with someone. can that wait?"

he blinked— the girl was in a room with a guy. he could only guess that the girl was in her bedroom and the guy was probably a relative.

i mean what sort of friend would be at your house at 10 in the evening to give you medicine?

"no. if you miss this one, you can't take fluoxe—" the rest of the guy's words were muffled. he assumed that the girl had covered the phone's microphone.

there were more muffled words that weren't heard over the phone before the girl spoke again.

"i'm sorry about that." she said. "could you call some other time? i have to sleep now."

oikawa frowned at his phone when the call ended. despite calling her to find out why she was down the entire day, he wasn't able to get the answers he wanted. however, he did grab some Intel.

some very worthy intel.

one, milkbread-chan is a girl.

two, milkbread-chan is sick.

three, milkbread-chan takes a medicine called paroxetine and something along the lines of fluoxe— something, because he wasn't able to hear the rest of the guy's words.

and four, milkbread-chan probably had a brother, or was just living with a guy relative.

he put his phone back on his bedside table and stared at his room's ceiling.

his mind went back to his question from earlier when he zoned out.

why did he call her?

-

"who was that?" semi asked once toshila ended the call and finally got to drink her medicine.

"oikawa."

semi frowned upon hearing the name. he was reminded that this girl was getting herself acquainted with oikawa despite knowing that she can't.

she literally cannot.

"what did he want?" he asked.

semi wasn't a relative. he was a good friend-cum-brother to toshila. he was an honorary member of the family, along with tendō, who toshila treasures deeply as well. semi takes his role as her brother very seriously, same with tendō. however, there are times wherein he finds himself contemplating why he even involved himself in the ushijima family through the girl.

"i don't remember." she shrugged, drinking another glass of water before leaning against her bedframe.

"why him?"

"he caught my eye." toshila looked at him. "should there be a reason to want to breathe aside from living?"

"going for oikawa and breathing are two completely different things." semi sweatdropped as he leaned against her bedframe, now tucked beside the girl who was bedridden the entire day.

he wonders what her ulterior motive is, and he'd like to ask. but he knows better, so he just keeps his mouth shut. however, he did have a 1% guess as to why she was trying to get involved with him. and he didn't think it was going to be pretty.

"i need them both, otherwise i won't live." toshila said, tucking herself inside her thick duvet and throwing an arm over semi's warm waist.

he was about to retort when he heard her light snores. he looked at the girl below him and saw that she was fast asleep.

"oh what do we do with you.." the pinch server sighed and ran a hand through toshila's hair. she was awake not even a few seconds ago.

this was one of the side effects of her medication. sleep.
