Dear Lisa,
There's something I need to tell you-Dear Lisa,
Rosie told me about the inter-college championshipsDear Lisa,
I know that we haven't always been on the best of termsThis is hopeless.
Jennie is swimming amongst crumpled up pieces of paper with scribbled out words. Her pencil lead is blunt from all the crossing out, and she shudders to think at all the paper she's wasting.
She just doesn't know what to say. That's always been her problem, she supposes.
In the end, she gives up, and lets herself wallow in the pile of paper surrounding her.
"So is this a cry for help or...?"
Jennie shoots up out of her seat and looks up to see Jisoo's smirking face. She hurriedly tries to swipe away all the screwed up balls of paper, but she guesses that there's no point trying to hide anything now.
"What are you doing, Jennie?" Jisoo says.
She tries to think of an excuse but comes up with nothing, so with a sigh, she tells the truth. "I'm trying to write a letter to the girl I love," she says, deadpan, trying to cover up her sincerity with sarcasm.
"Oh, is it for me?" Jisoo teases. "I knew you'd come round, eventually."
"Ha," Jennie says, dryly. "We both know I'm not the one you're interested in."
Jisoo's face falters for a second, all the teasing falling away from her expression. "Is she okay?"
"I'm sure she's going to be fine," Jennie says. "She just needs time."
There's a moment of quiet, and then Jisoo drops herself onto the seat beside her.
"So, what have you got so far?" she says, grabbing one of the pages.
Jennie darts out and snatches the page away from her. "Nothing! Nothing so far. Only a few words," she rambles.
Jisoo raises an eyebrow. Jennie gathers all the pages up.
"Look," she sighs. "Could you please just go and get Lisa for me?"
Jisoo snorts. "Alright, lovergirl. Wait here."
She turns to leave, and Jennie swears she hears her mutter something like 'lovesick fool'.
—————
Her head is bent, and she's scrawling something on a pad of paper, so absorbed in whatever she's writing that she's completely oblivious to her surroundings. It makes her want to smile somehow, there's something endearing about the way she gets lost in the things she does.
When Lisa hovers beside her, she doesn't seem to notice that she's there, so Lisa coughs once and she jumps straight out of her seat.
"Lisa! Hi, Lisa. Hey," Jennie stammers, turning her pad of paper over and throwing it away from her. "You came."
Lisa grins and takes a seat beside her. "I came," she says in response.
"I didn't think you would," she admits, running a hand through her hair.
"I don't know why you're surprised," Lisa says, something of a teasing smile on her face. "I'm the only person who can stand to hear you talk endlessly."
Jennie looks at the floor, trying to hide her own smile. "Has that been the case this whole time? You could've fooled me."
"Alright then, since you were so sure that I wouldn't come, I'll stay here until you tell me to leave," she says.
