Fanfiction: You're an Avenger
By Nadia RanaputriThis is based on the TV spot for Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Clint Barton/Hawkeye encourages Pietro and Wanda to step out the door and become an Avenger. By the way, 25 more days until Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out in my country, so I am super excited to see what Joss Whedon has in store for us! I am a huge fan of Marvel movies, and I always come to watch every single Marvel movie that comes out. This fanfic is just a little fic on what I imagine will happen when Clint said "If you step out that door, you're an Avenger."
Red.
That was all Wanda could see.
Red beams. Coming out of her fragile hands. Ultron drones were her main target. Nothing else mattered. Her brother Pietro scrambled here and there, taking out another group of Ultron drones from the opposite side of the building.
Somehow, both Wanda and Pietro have separated from the Avengers.
We were never on their side, anyway, Wanda thought to herself.
She shot out another beam of red across the room in anger. Before she knew it, she and Pietro remained the last ones standing.
A few months earlier
"There is nothing more horrifying than a miracle", Baron Von Strucker muttered. "Sooner or later, they will meet The Twins. Our own little anti-Avengers."
Baron glared at Wanda and Pietro in their cells, experimenting with their newfound powers.Oh, how strange the world can be, Wanda thought.
Her hands moved in the dancing motion as her hexes moved like snakes around the two cubes that Baron had generously offered to "kill the time".
She heard thumping noises from other cell. It was Pietro, running back and forth. She heard him crash against the wall and cry out in pain.
"Sleep, dear Brother, sleep", Wanda said as she drops the cubes from her grasp and turns her hexes on Pietro.
A few seconds later, she hears Pietro slump on the floor. There was nothing but silent heartbeat heard from the two of them.
Present day
"We should go!" Pietro exclaimed, "I can't take this anymore!"
Wanda shook her head at her brother and wiped her tears away.
"The Avengers," she mumbled, "they need help."
"They don't need our help!" Pietro replied, "let them do this on their own. We are done taking sides!"
In that moment, loud footsteps were heard from across the room.
It belonged to none other than Clint Barton, the Avengers' ace archer. He dropped his aiming position as soon as he was sure that the room was clear of Ultron drones.
Wanda sensed Pietro's urge to attack the fellow archer, and gripped her hand on his arm. She crouched down on the ragged floor and dragged Pietro with her.
"Don't", she snapped at him.
Clint's head snaps to their direction. Wanda gripped her brother even more tightly.
Clint runs up to them without a sense of doubt. He places his bow behind his back, along with his quiver, and approached them.
"He will kill us, do you realize that?" Pietro whispered to Wanda.
Wanda shook her head in reply.
"He won't," she said, "and even if he does, we deserve it."
She dropped her head down and stated at the floor. She couldn't bear to look at the face of a man who had done so much to save the lives of millions. She felt ashamed to even be in the presence of someone like Clint Barton.
"Barton, report," Natasha's voice ran through Clint's earpiece.
"All clear here," Clint replied, "but I gotta deal with something first."
"You have ten minutes," Natasha said.
"I only need five", Clint muttered, "Barton, out."
Wanda's eyes remain glued on the floor. She tried to calm herself down. Her brother, on the other hand, was shaking in anger.
"You guys okay?" she heard Clint say.
"What does it look like?" Pietro snapped at him, "we just survived a swarm of Ultron drones. We're not lying dead on the floor."
Wanda bit her lip in order to stop herself from snapping back at her brother.
From the floor, she sees Clint crouch down in front of them. His hand lays on a pile of fallen bricks.
"Snap at me all you want, but I want to thank you two for what you did out there," Clint says, "we wouldn't have made it back into one piece as a group if it weren't for you."
Wanda expected Pietro to have an angry comeback, but he stayed silent. She notices Clint tapping his fingers on the bricks. He was waiting for a reply.
"You're welcome," Wanda said out of nowhere, her head remaining down.
"You know, it's rude to keep your head down when someone thanks you," Clint sighed.
"I spent most of my life keeping my head up while other people throw sh*t at me," Wanda replied, "I'd rather keep my head down."
From the floor, she could hear Clint chuckle.
"You two deserve a second chance," he says.
"No, we don't," Wanda muttered, "we have done nothing but bring burden to innocent people."
"Everyone deserves a second chance," he said, "it depends on whether you take it or not."
Wanda lifted her head up in surprise. All her life, everyone told her that not everyone deserves a second chance in life. Clint was not one of them.
"Listen," Clint continued, "I'm giving you a second chance at redemption. You join us. It's that simple."
"No one will accept us," Pietro says.
"I will," Clint replied.
He points to a door on their left."If you step out that door," he continues, "you're an Avenger."
There's your chance, Wanda.
"No," Pietro shakes his head, "we're not going to take your manipulative offer."
Wanda makes a noise of protest, but Pietro gave her a warning look.
Clint looked at them in surprise.
"If you're not going, dear brother, I will," Wanda says, "I'm stepping out that door, and I will become an Avenger, no matter what you say. You can go and live life your own way, but I'm living mine with the Avengers."
She releases Pietro and stood up. Clint nods and stood after her.
"If I step out that door and become an Avenger," she started, "will I get the redemption that I deserve?"
"It depends," Clint replied, "on how you decide from there."
Wanda nodded and turned to face the door. Before she could take a step forward, a red and blue figure glided across the door before her. The figure kicked the door open and leaped on the floor.
"Holy sh*t," Clint swore under his breath, "you're the spider guy."
"It's Spider-MAN," the figure corrected, "jeez, get your facts straight."
There was an uncomfortable silence in the room, until Spider-Man decided to speak again.
"So do I become an Avenger, or what?"
