"All men are not born equal." The woman in her late 60's sat on the chair in front of the classroom. "Do you agree or not?"
The chitchats of the students stopped, the whole class went silent. No one dared to talk for they know that Professor Mathilda Bourgeois is a strict learned teacher who's passionate about history.
Even if you read the whole topic for hours and confidently know in yourself that you'll ace her exam, when it coms to oral recitation, that confidence might not last. It is because the professor has a habit of simultaneous questioning that intimidates the students, making them question their own knowledge and well-being.
Everyone is afraid to talk during her lectures, except for one.
"No, ma'am. I beg to disagree." A voice comes from the left side corner of the theater-style classroom.
The professor roamed her eyes to find the owner of the voice. But deep inside, she knew a few students from this class that have the courage to speak up against her.
"Why do you say so, Ms. Clemente?"
The young teenage girl raised from her seat and confidently faced the strict lady in front. "Your statement is not true, Professor. All men are born equal, life is fair because it doesn't give anyone the perfect situation that everyone wants. We tend to see and experience challenges that make us question ourselves, we tend to blame circumstances that lead us to bad situations, but in the end, we are all surviving. All men are born equal, it's just a matter of mindset on how we see the world."
"Clever answer, Ms. Clemente." The young student smiled at the teacher and sat down proudly. "But wrong."
Shocked was well written in the young lady's face, she thought that she outwitted the professor already. Professor Mathilda just sneered, "Perhaps you didn't read the topic for today in advance."
Miss Clemente is guilty. It's true that she didn't read the possible topic for today. Well, nobody did. Last night, everyone was partying in their house, enjoying the last day of the semestral break, and forgot they have a history class on their first period.
