This is my interpretation of what the conversation between Izzie and Doug could have been after the girls got back together
Casey and Izzie had been hanging out in Casey's room all day. Talking, making out, watching movies, doing whatever. But eventually, Casey had to pee. So Izzie sat by herself for a little while, just scrolling on her phone.
After a few minutes, she heard the door open again, and she looked up, expecting to see her girlfriend. However, her smile dropped when, instead of her girlfriend, she saw her girlfriend's dad.
"Izzie, uh- mind if I talk to ya?" Doug spoke in an awkward, stiff tone.
Izzie's face didn't hide how unimpressed she was, but he didn't seem like he wanted to fight.
"Um... okay, I guess." She shrugged lightly and sat up straight. "What about?"
Her guard was all the way up because the last time they spoke, he basically called her the bringer of destruction and chaos. He seemed guilty enough, considering how he was fidgeting as he entered the room.
"Listen-" He started speaking, then paused. "The things I said when we talked... it wasn't right, you know?"
Izzie nodded and remained silent.
He swallowed hard. "I just don't want you to think I hate you. 'Cause I don't."
Her eyebrow was slightly raised. "You don't hate me now, or you didn't hate me then?" She asked plainly.
"I.. Well, I mean, of course I wasn't your biggest fan a little while ago." He chuckled awkwardly. "But I've been talking to Casey. And trying to pay attention more..." He trailed off a little.
Izzie sat quietly, waiting for his response. It seemed like this was going somewhere positive, but her hopes weren't very high.
"What I'm trying to say and failing miserably is... you're good for her." He finally spat it out.
"What?"
"A few weeks ago, it felt like my daughter was slippin' through the cracks. I was looking for every explanation of why that was." Doug said slowly, trying to explain himself. "And uh- you guys were together all the time, you know?"
She nodded, acknowledging his point.
"I dunno. I didn't realize you were always around because you helped - not because you were part of the problem." He said with a sigh.
"Mr Gardner, I really, really care about Casey. All I ever wanted to do was be there for her." She spoke up.
"I know you do. I know." He smiled slightly. "At the end of the day... God, this is hard... I came here to say sorry to you. She was so... broken when you left. And it was my fault you felt like you had to go."
She smiled a little too and nodded. "I appreciate that. Thanks."
Afterward, there was a short period of awkward silence.
"Well..." Doug cleared his throat. "I'll uh- I'll get outta your hair."
He patted his knees and nodded stiffly before opening the door. On his way out, he walked past Casey, who looked incredibly confused.
"What was that?" She asked, sitting next to Izzie.
She shrugged. "He apologized." It felt weird to say. "I think... we're good."
Casey was incredibly shocked, and Izzie dodged all the questions she had about what was said between them. The important thing was that the hostility could finally end.
