The Road Ahead
"A Pack?" Chapter Two
** ** ** **
"I woke up one morning thinking about wolves and realized wolf packs function as family. Everyone has a role, and if you act within the perimeters of your role the whole pack will succeed, and when that falls apart, so does the pack." Quote By: Jodi Picoult
Zero and I worked side by side for the first few hours of the day, she remained silent the entire time and I felt something gnaw at my bones. The pain was a dull one, but over time it grew into a fire that spread throughout my body that with time, would destroy me. Leaving nothing but ashes, and the remains of my burnt, and helpless body.
We were out in the yard, our back turned to the house, that's when she spoke. "I'm thinking about running away." She spoke quietly, I stopped and faced her, "Act like you're still working or she'll think somethings up." I did as I was told.
"How? Yuri has this place under lock down, spells. Remember?"
She slowed down her pace, we were raking leaves, but every time the wind would blow a new set of dead leaves would find its mark in front of us.
"Yes, I know. I've- I mean, we've been here way to long. She isn't keeping us safe anymore. She's keeping her house kept so when she sells it a higher bidder will come in. I've got a plan."
A new gust of wind.
I stayed silent, waiting for her to continue. She looked at me from the corner of her eye, I nodded. "I have this friend who stayed here for some time, Yuri separated us a long time ago because he was male. We've been leaving notes around the house, we've discussed a escape route. His name is, don't laugh, Giles." She smiled at his name, it was weird, but I liked the sound of it.
"Anyway, soon he's going to take Yuri away from her office, someone needs to sneak in and break the system she has in there. I'll take down the cameras, then we'll run. All three of us." She said, looking at me.
My mind went completely numb and I yearned to get out of here. "I'm in."
She nodded and we continued working in silence for a few more hours. I thought the plan over in my head. Giles will be the distraction, I'll be the technician, and Zero will be the brutal force. It sounds fitting. It sounds, at first glace, full proof. Something in my was concerned for the boy I've never met though. I hope he could get out with us.
By this time we were back inside the house, it was a three story place with big rooms. Honestly, it was beautiful. It was antique looking. It was built back in the 1800's, I think, and handed down Miss Yuri's family generation to generation. It surprised me that people outside her family actually decided to populate with them. If Yuri's entire family was like her then I would believe that they ruled hell.
"So what's up?" Asked Samantha, she was a friend of mine as well. She was a vampire.
"Thinking..." I said, not finishing my sentence. She raised her eyebrows at me, I looked at Zero. Her back was to me, I think she was reading a book.
"About...?" Continued Samantha, Zero shook her head slowly. Werewolf hearing, she can hear us. Damn her.
"Have you ever heard of a boy names Giles?" I asked, looking away from the wolf. Samantha went red in her cheeks and ears. She nodded.
"He's really cute, I've only seen him once on accident though. You know Yuri likes to keep the genders separate. No cross breeding." She said; I nodded.
