'Shut the door' she ordered me. That rude, petty bitch couldn't bring herself to shut the door. I rolled my eyes at him and her. Then I came to the realisation that I was alone and injured in a room with a man that would want to kill me as soon as he found out who I really was. Great. Just great.
'Take a seat' he gestured to one of the two leather chairs that were in front of his desk. All that was on the desk seemed to be an expensive computer and a single stack of papers.
'Why am I here?' I do not look him in the eyes. Play the role.
'Because you witnessed something... let's call it illegal' he said it nonchalantly. As if it were a joke.
'I mean in this office, with you, right now.' I correct his stupidity. I struggled to keep the innocence to my voice, and to not let the venom seep through.
'Because I wanted to meet you. And tell you about the role you will be playing in this household.' He tried to look me straight in the eyes, I looked straight back. But only before I looked down cowardly.
'Nadia Romano.' My name rolled of the tip of his tongue, sending a light shiver down my spine. Of fear or enjoyment? I do not know. And the not knowing, well it scares me I suppose.
'Yes?' I replied innocently.
'Do not try acting so innocent Principessa' oh come on man. Leave a girl be.
'It's not an act' I say smoothly.
'I'm sorry Nadia, but a girl with your background isn't innocent.'
'I am unsure what you mean'
My heart was going a million miles a minute. There's absolutely no way he could have figured any of it out. No way. No one has those kind of recourses. No one has those sort of hacking skills.'Nadia Romano, aged 21, and an address. That's all the information that my number one hacker could get on you without going into a deep web search. That's not normal.
And imagine my surprise when I found out that your fingerprints weren't in any of the systems databases, anywhere.' He tried to take a dramatic pause, but that was stupid and so I butted in.
'I was in the witness protection program.'
I know that I have got his attention when his whole demeanour shifted.'A small time gang killed my father, they found out he was an undercover cop. They searched his police profile and realised I was his daughter, and then they tried to kill me. Therefore I was given a new identity, and my old identity is deceased. My fingerprints were deleted from the police database for my protection.' I thank myself profusely for hacking the police database and adding a whole new persona just so that I had a back up plan for exactly this situation. He could search up that name, and he would find a detailed coroners report, along with my supposed "suicide note" in which I confessed my dying love for my father and explain I couldn't go on without him.
