Cody whimpered, nudging against the kitten again. She tried licking harder, tried licking lighter, but the kitten wasn't responding to anything.

Crying out, Cody nudged the kitten onto their side. She could hear that the other two kittens were waking up, but she wanted this kitten to wake up.
She licked against the kitten's chest, rocking the kitten with the force of her desperation.

Finally, Cody laid down again, allowing her other kittens to reach her stomach as she stared sadly at the final kitten. Giving it one last nudge, licking their chin, Cody turned to make sure her other two kittens were still alive.

Purring sadly, Cody almost didn't hear it. The choked squeal. Turning to face the youngest kitten, Cody was startled to her feet when she noticed that one of their paws was moving. Nudging against them, ignoring the protests of the oldest two, Cody chirped as the tiny kitten released a mewl, their paws moving again.

Cody laid back down, placing the most petite kitten next to her stomach before nudging the others over.

Everyone in the security room all but collapsed in relief.

A third kitten has been born!

-----

The 212th not in the security room was in shock. As far as they knew, Commander Tooka was only expecting one kitten, not three.

-----

Once Cody was sure that everyone was as clean as possible and another kitten was not about to make a surprise appearance, Cody collected all the kittens onto the sunset orange blanket before dragging the blanket (kittens included) towards the central nest.

Cody purred happily at the warmth and security of the central nest, curling up around her kittens as they began to fall asleep.

The mouse droids waited until they were all settled before they shot into the room and collected the materials used in the birthing nest so that they could be cleaned and returned as soon as possible.

---

Cody hissed as Aaray approached with a box. She moved until she was sheltering her vulnerable kittens from the intruder.

"Shhh, I'm just taking all of you to the vet to make sure that your healthy," Wrap whispered.

Cody hissed.
They were not going near Di'kut.

"We've managed to get an appointment with the senior vet, not the one you disliked so much," Wrap stated, trying to calm Commander Tooka, "the vet will also be able to help with your youngest, give them the best shot at life."

Cody thought over the words before slowly backing away, still hissing when Aaray moved too fast.
She calmed down once she was moved into the box, reunited with her kittens.

-----

Cody hissed as she smelt the too clean smell of the veterinary clinic. Curling around her kittens more, she tried to shelter them from the sights and smells.

"She gave birth yesterday?" The senior vet asked, her head peeking over the top of the box.

"Yes, to three kittens, one of which did not start breathing for a while," Wrap nodded, reaching down and grabbing Commander Tooka so that the vet could get the kittens.
