Elijah arrived home three days later. He stumbled into my room just after midnight, grumbling about how Jasper forced him to come right to me when he got back and not wait until a reasonable hour.

I sat up in bed, reading through a report that detailed a batch of substances that had gone missing from our shipment. Rumors were some local drug lords were behind it and that meant a trip to Red Hook Terminal would be to fix it.

Elijah threw himself on my bed, accidentally jostling my injured arm. I barely registered the pain, at this point I could tune out any aches or sharp notes of pain. He cuddled with one of my pillows, a relaxed smile on his face.

"What did you find out?" I demanded, watching a frown appear on his face.

"Why do you have to ruin my comfort?" he asked, opening his mouth wide and yawning in my face.

I laid against the pillows propping me up on the headboard. "I've already got two siblings pissed off at me, we can always go for a third," I joked but the truth behind my words struck me.

Elijah smirked up at me. "I heard about that, sad that I missed the show."

"More of a trainwreck than a show."

"Still interesting to watch," he pointed out. I jabbed him in the stomach and he hissed. "Okay, geez," he shoved his fist in my pillow and sat up sluggishly. "I can confirm that Shan hired the assassin but his father had nothing to do with it, I don't even think he knows what Shan did."

"He knows. Zhang Wei knows everything, he knew our parents left before anyone else knew and you can beat your ass that he's got people watching his children at all times," I replied stoically, shuffling the papers around.

Elijah huffed, burying his face in the pillow. "Well, my guys and I couldn't find out that for sure but it was Shan, I had the assassin set up a meeting with him expecting Shan to refuse payment for not getting the job done."

I raised an eyebrow. "And?"

"He kicked off like a little bitch," came Elijah's muffled reply and I laughed loudly. "Flipped a table and everything, you would have loved it. His hair got messed up, it was great."

I couldn't help the laughter leaving my lips as he spoke, just imagining prim and proper Shan, losing his shit completely. Shan always came across as perfectly emotionless and I'm sure his father expected nothing less, his little sister the same.

I slouched further into the pillows, my body sliding down the bed. "Did you find out why he tried to have me killed?" I asked after the chuckles has subsided and calmed down.

His face turned to the side, giving him some much-needed air and his tired eyes sleepily gazed at me. "His accounts are frozen."

That got my attention. "What?" I asked in disbelief. "Frozen? As in Shan can't access his money?" Oh my god, amazing.

"Yup, Liling's account too," he said, referring to his socialite younger sister, "and Zhang Wei's." My eyes nearly popped out of my head. "The only person with access to their money is Mei," he pointed out Zhang's wife.

I ran a hand over my face. "If their accounts are frozen then they're probably under some form of investigation." Odd that they would throw a party when they're essentially broke. "It makes sense that Mei would have an open account since she comes from old money," I suggested, my brain running through each thought. "We'll need to check our own assets since there's chatter we're under investigation too." I bit my lip, worrying.

"Mhm," Elijah moaned in agreement, his eyes fluttering shut. Within seconds his breathing turned deep and his hand curled around the pillow, pulling it closer to his body.
