CASSIE MYERS WAS A BROKEN GIRL, but she wasn't always broken. She used to be happy. In fact, if you knew her when she was a kid you would think she was high from how happy she was. But that all changed when Owen Myers, Cassie's father, died due to cancer.

Kate Myers, who was Cassie's mother, never grieved over her husband's death. She acted as if she never knew Owen, going out every night to get drunk and bringing men over. But even though she spent most of her time getting drunk and sleeping with random people, she still found time to taunt her daughter.

Cassie's light dimmed down a bit ever since her father's death, but it was still there and shimmering. It only fully died down throughout the years of torture and abuse of all kinds she received from her mother and her boyfriends. She might not have noticed, but there was still a bit of light still there, she just hadn't met the right person that would show her that she was worth more than she was treated as or worth more than she thought of herself as.

That one person hadn't made her appearance until Cassie was almost 18, which meant she had endured her mother's behavior towards her for a little over 10 years. But that one person knew what it felt like to have your light snuffed out and what it felt like to lose the only few people you cared about that loved you back, and made it her mission to help the broken girl. She didn't know what she was getting herself into, but if she could go back in time to decide differently, she wouldn't. Because in the end, she found herself loving Cassie, and Cassie loving her back, and that was their happy ending. Her love had saved the broken girl, and she didn't want it any differently.
