CASSIE WOKE UP FLINCHING when she put her hand to her head still feeling her mother's claw like nails scratching her scalp. She could feel the dried blood from last night crusting on her head because of how tight her mother's grip was. It was almost as if she was trying to split her head open in anger and hate.

Cassie pushed back the tears that were threatening to come out and walked into the small cramped bathroom to take a shower. She slowly stripped off her clothes, lightly using her fingers to trace over her faded and showing bruises. Once she was completely nude, she got into the shower and switched on the water turning it to the hottest setting.

After scrubbing her hair and washing herself it a couple of times to make sure the blood was out and she was clean, she carefully stepped out wrapping her towel around her frame. She changed into her new clothes for the day and made her way downstairs.

Her hands were behind her back and her fingers were tightly crossed in hopes that her mother and her boyfriend were gone and she slightly smiled when she saw the note taped onto the fridge.

It read: Gone until next Sunday. Don't touch anything.

Cassie didn't have to worry about being super quiet so that she wouldn't get in trouble or beaten, or having to follow the rules she usually had to follow.

She was free for now so she had to make the most out of that. It didn't matter if she only had barely a week to herself, it was better than nothing.

She slammed the door to the house she grew to loath carefully but not cautiously feeling great about the fact she didn't have to worry about her mother's shouting and abuse. She stuffed her hands in her pockets and joyfully strolled down the streets taking her usual walk. But what caught her eye was some money left in an alley.

Cassie knew she shouldn't take it because not only was it not hers, but it could also be some kind of trap. Or maybe that was just her paranoia talking. But she took it anyways. She needed the money and she couldn't live off of donuts for 6 days. She needed real food and now that she had money she decided she was going to buy herself a burger.

After walking past a few more blocks, she finally reached her destination and went in, placing in an order of a milkshake, a burger, and some fries. When the food was placed in front of her, her mouth practically watered at the sight before she took a big bite of the burger, washing it down with a huge gulp of her drink. She looked up when she heard the familiar voice she longed to hear again and finally did.

"Someone's hungry, huh?"

"Very, hello Freya." she smiled and Freya took a seat next to her.

"Hello Cassie."

"What brings you here?" Cassie asked.

"Well I just thought I'd have a drink." Freya replied and Cassie laughed a bit before putting a few fries in her mouth.

"This early in the morning?" she craned her neck so she didn't have to turn her whole body to face Freya.

"You know it." she got a wink as an answer from the tall blonde which just earned a not so fake but not so real smile out of the girl.

"I know this might be an odd question since we just kind of met yesterday but would you like to go out sometime?" Freya hopefully asked.

"Oh, umm, sure, why not. We could meet here at 8?" Cassie nodded, inwardly celebrating.

"Ok, that's good. That's great. I'm free. Ok." Freya stumbled over her words before clearing her throat and pointing at the door.

"I'm going to go now, my siblings are kind of trouble makers and they need me right now." she grabbed her purse that she set down and got up.
