The Void was a quiet place, perfect for one to slumber, should they choose to do so, but the two humans felt like the Void was anything but a comfortable place with the bright aqua-coloured sky and floating stones. It was like any moment there could be something lurking around any corner or platform above or below them. But the Horsemen did what they could to be accommodating. Nephilim never needed to sleep, no one knew why, but when War and Fury were finally able to give each other a break from teasing one another about their new companions, each of them had a moment to contemplate their situation.
Mathias sat in the corner of two stone towers on a platform connected to the one where Vulgrim and Azrael stayed, the discomfort was settling in as he couldn't align himself properly against the wall to get cozy enough to sleep. Azrael had given him and Emily so much information that he was still trying to process it. How would they save the world anyway? He had no combat training, the only thing he was good at was writing and that wasn't really something that could stop a war could it?
He turned to look at Strife who was pacing around the central round scaffold separate from the young man deep in thought, so Mathias figured it was best not to interrupt him with more questions. Emily had gone somewhere else with War and Death and he wanted to suggest that they stay somewhere together so that they could catch up, but War and Fury seemed eager to guard them both with their lives that they took it way too seriously. Perhaps another time would present itself.
"You're not sleeping," it was Fury who arrived who interrupted Mathias's thoughts.
Mathias sat up slowly, "Sorry, lying against stones with weird glyphs isn't really something I take as comfortable,
"Better get used to it, there won't be much luxury in the Void or any realm,"
Mathias sighed, Fury was an interesting being, and beautiful, yet she seemed rather harsh. Was it true she had been rounding up humans to the Maker's world like he had heard? Why didn't she find him when she had the chance?
Fury started to walk away towards Strife who gazed at the sky and then at her. His arms were crossed as if he were deep in thought and then she saw Death arrive walking down a set of floating stone steps to speak to Strife. They conversed quietly that Mathias could not make out their words like they were being excluded.
The young man had not met Death prior to arriving in the Void but he seemed to be the most mature of the Horsemen.
"I knew I couldn't keep it a secret," Fury grumbled, glaring at Strife and Death talking privately, and then she saw the latter glance darkly at her like he knew something,
"What secret?" Mathias inquired,
"That sigil I carried, the one Azrael took. No doubt you saw it. It was a parting gift and the Council saw it as a threat, I still don't know much about what it does,"
"Think it might help you end this?"
Fury exhaled, "I don't know, Mathias, your questions are starting to vex me. Why don't you get some sleep? The humans in the Forge Lands weren't this curious,"
Mathias couldn't get comfortable as he tried to adjust his position on the hard rocky surface, he had no pillow or blanket so to him this was completely roughing it like the journey to Mordor. Fury seemed to have a split in her personality before him, claiming to have spent a lot of time around humans, but there was also a side to her that was aggressive and reclusive towards him and her brothers. It was a miracle that he managed to convince her earlier not to kill Panoptos back at the Scar and she seemed to hate herself inside for listening to this young man just because a part of her found him intriguing as well.
He inched over to Fury who had sat down parallel to him, "Look, I'm not trying to be intrusive, I just want to get to know the lady who rescued me. You just seem very conflicted. I don't know if my family's alive and Emily might be all that I have left now,"
