After Jimin drove you home you walked up the driveway and opend the door to your house. As you walked in you saw your mother sitting in the living room with her friends.
The awkward eye-contact made you quickly shift your eyes from theirs to your feet. Quietly, you walked to your room not daring to lift your head after what had happend at the swimming competition. But as soon as you turned the corner to the hallway you heard them whisper to each other as if you couldn't hear them if they did that.
"I told you she wasn't practicing hard enough." One woman scoffed.
"I'm pretty sure it's that boy she hangs out with all the time." The other one added. "You know the other day-"
"You think I don't know what my own daughter gets up to?"
Your mother cut her off.
"I swear to you, after all I've done for her, it's like she's never putting anything in to it.""Never putting anything in to it." You repeated to yourself as you reached your room and shut the door.
Me having no friends because I was always training or studying, was me 'never putting anything in to it'?
Me never eating the any of the foods I wanted because I needed to stay fit was me 'never putting anything in to it'?
Me worring about the test results and swimming competitions till I couldn't breathe was me 'never putting anything in to it'?
I put everything in to it. My whole life in to it.
You thought to yourself in screams but your mouth didn't even utter a whisper.
A while later your mother came in to your room telling you that dinner was ready also she would be going on a business trip tomorrow that would last for two week. You knew it wasn't a coincidence.
It rained hard that night and as you went to bed without eating dinner, you curled up on your bed and fell into a deep sleep to the sound of rain falling on your roof.
The next day you woke up late, it was surprising and unlike most days. At first you sat up thinking you were late but then remembered that you didn't have training practice today so you lay back down.
Just then your phone rang. The ring tone was the theme song of the Mickey Mouse Club House. Confused, you looked at who the contact was and saw Jimin. The photo was of him making a silly face which made you let out a laugh. He would always sneak on your phone and change things.
Swiping your phone right, you answered the call, "Seriously, Jimin?"
"What?" He replied, in an obviously fake confused voice.
"Don't play dumb, I know you did it."
"Did what?"
"Does 'come inside, it's fun inside' ring a bell?" You sang annoyed.
Jimin burst out laughing, "I was worried you'd put your phone on silent, good to see my plans weren't ruined."
"Haha." You replied sarcasticly.
"So... what chya' up to?" He said changing the subject.
"Nothing much." You replied nonchalantly.
Avoding the elephant in the room, he then asked if you wanted to hang out. You knew he wanted to cheer you up but you didn't feel like being around others today so you turned him down kindly.
The rest of the day was quiet as you listened to the rain and relaxed, it felt odd though, you had never had this much free time before and it almost made you uncomfortable. The clock ticked 5 o'clock and after getting a snack you noticed that the rain had stopped. Wanting to get some fresh air, you decided to go for a short walk.
Getting out of the stuffy house was more than enough to raise your spirits. And as you walked down a pathway that led to the forest, you felt a cool breeze on your face making you smile as you breathed it in and smelled the pine trees.
Minutes passed by like seconds and before you knew it half an hour had passed by and you'd walked deeper into the woods than you'd intended to.
As you looked around you saw a lake to your left, the water was gleaming and sparkling in late afternoon sunlight. It was so peaceful and beautiful that, as you gazed at it, you decided to do something that was probably dumb but definitely fun.
You took off your sweater and untied your shoes, then placed them neatly on the grass by the lake. Letting out a quiet giggle, you slipped into the sparkling water. There was no one to correct your form or time your speed, you were the only one there and it made you feel peaceful. Surprisingly, the water wasn't as cold as you'd imagined it to be, considering the heavy rainfall earlier.
Turning over on to your back and drifting on the water, you watched the clouds drift by in the pink and orange sunset sky. When suddenly, something caught your attention in the corner of your eye. You glanced over and saw a wolf standing alone in the woods. It stared at you unwavering, almost like it had a secret. And in flash it disappeared into the woods again.
Pushing back the thoughts of the wolf, you continued to swim in the lake but after a while you noticed it was getting quite late. You thought you should head back soon when suddenly you heard a voice from behind you.
"I thought you gave up swimming."
You turn around to see the man you met at the swimming competition standing at the banks of the lake.
