The last scene was on my mind lately but I cannot remember which fanfic had it or what fandom, I do believe it was from some The Witcher fic before I spun it into an OC scene idea (and it stayed like that for a while) and then instead made it VTK. Please do tell me if you recognize it so I can credit the inspiration at least.
__ - __
It's been a little over 4 months since Cassian was awakened as a villain and joined Gafam shortly after. Four months of him spending all time he can afford to spend inside the Gadam zone with the rest of the villains. Within a first week, it was already obvious that his boss has many enemies, and it's one of the reasons why Cassian ended up refusing the position. The other one was because even when they found the traitors in the zone the temperature room would lower to freezing point - cold as ice, whenever the discussion of Cassian taking the mantle would come up or even hinted at.
Surprisingly or not, Redeye was the one to seek him out.
"If Driver passes the control to you, then he will not be tied to this place like he was until now. Others are scared that this might result in him distancing himself or leaving. He wouldn't, but no matter how much you believe something, fear is irrational, you know."
It's not that he was particularly attached to Driver the way the rest of the zone is, but he accepted him into the zone and trusted him enough to lead and protect the most precious thing he had, his family.
He called him his family.
He was the first one to see what he was, a villain, and still treat him with kindness even after Cassian attacked him first from behind.
And Cassian understood others.
When he was about to be adopted he didn't want to leave the orphanage. Jeff was like a brother to him, and he didn't speak English and he definitively didn't want to go to America.
But he did, and even after reuniting with Jeff, he lost him again.
And now Driver was missing as well, his tracker showing that he is in another vilzone with no backup.
It's possible that this is all part of his boss's plan, after all, there is a reason that Driver - who is under Crow in terms of ranks, is the undefeated leader of the Vilzone. Or that Cassian is walking into a trap.
All the same, Cassian goes.

"Cassian," he says and flashes him a charming smile. "Immaculate timing, I must say."
Cassian stares at the man pinning him to the wall with the interest of someone regarding the weather out the window, then turns his gaze back to Driver whose grin doesn't falter even with the broken lip that makes his teeth gleam in the dim light.
An audible crack of bones is heard followed by a piercing cry as the hand wrapped around his throat is violently ripped away by dark shadows. Driver slides down the wall and coughs. His huffs for air mix with the screams of the man. Cassian doesn't bother even glancing his way when he sends him smashing into the wall with a flick of his wrist. The man falls limply, unconscious, to the ground.
Driver was still heaving for breath while he watched, his head angled upwards just enough to meet the gaze of the newest addition to his vilzone family, and his grin was unfaltering.
"That wasn't fun at all, he was too rough." his voice is kept light but hoarse. He walks over to the man, slowly but casually in a way Driver often tries to portray himself. The younger villain watches him step under the bright street light, hands messaging his throat, the red imprints of the hands around his neck stark on his pale skin.
Cassian hovers close, unwilling to leave his boss until the rest of the villains join them, and judging by the fire and smoke that are spreading a few streets away, others will be here soon.
"The rest seem to be having more fun." Driver follows his gaze and laughs at the sight "Come along Cassian, they won't be happy we kept them waiting." he still has his glasses on but Cassian can imagine his eyes sparkling with mischief "Crow is probably worried." he muses to himself and walks further away from the street light.
They both get embraced by Shadows and disappear under the blanket of darkness. The man and the cracked wall were only proof they were ever there. And the source of the fire will be there to get rid of both soon anyway.
