Her earpiece crackled to life, "Hostile force in Gallery 3, all agents to attend immediately. Weapons at the ready."
She sprinted down the corridor, thankful she was on the same floor and able to respond quickly. Sliding to a stop she peered around the corner into the gallery, home to the otherworldly relics SHIELD protected. An impossibly tall man was striding down the central aisle, his back to her.
"Freeze," She yelled, gun thrust forward.
He turned slowly, grinning. "Well well, well, Midgardian, I'd be careful where you point that if I was you."
"What did you just call me?" She prayed that backup would arrive quickly, recognising him from her long hours studying in the file room. Loki Laufeyson, God of Mischief.
He approached, letting each step fall heavily on the floor, all while staring intently at her. "I know who you are, Loki, and back up is on the way. I suggest you surrender immediately." He merely smirked in response.
A silent wave broke between them as she felt the familiar nudge of magic.
"That won't work on me", she said.
"Excuse me?" He looked stunned.
"Magic. It doesn't work on me." But she wasn't the only one in the room. Three other agents were approaching her, their eyes glazed over with enchantments.
"Really?" His voice was silky smooth as another, much firmer wave hit her.
"Really," she confirmed. "Now I must insist that you stop."
"Oh I don't think I will," he replied, with a greedy look in his eyes. He split himself in two and the double lunged at her, passing through her body like she was no more than a ghost. It made her skin crawl and a cold sweat break out along her spine.
"How very interesting," he growled menacingly, before crossing the space between them and ripping her gun out of her hands before she had time to react.
She cursed herself for being so slow. Spinning out of his grasp she managed to get a hand to her dagger and brought it up between them.
'Feisty. I like it." His eyes were filled with delight and something that almost looked like longing.
He lunged for her and she parried, losing her grip on her knife as her forearm connected with his. He seized the opportunity to wrap his fingers around her throat, squeezing until she saw stars. Just before the darkness overwhelmed her, she felt the rush of the cool air around her before her body collided with something solid.
"Bring her," the order rang out around the hall. It was the last thing she remembered before she passed out.
