On Monday I searched for Kyo. I finally found him putting glossy textbooks into a beige colored locker. He hadn't noticed me yet. He seemed to be having a conversation with himself in his mind, muttering the same sentence over and over.
I snuck up behind him and laid my head on his shoulder. He jumped.
"Whu- hey!" He says in a startled tone.
"You forgot your jacket, carrot-top." He took it from my hands. He looked sheepish.
"Oh, uh, right." He says, putting it on a hook in his locker. "About that..." He says, turning to me. He looked like he had taken the entire weekend preparing the next words that came out of his mouth. He stood taller and more confidently.
"Would you like to go on a date?" Kyo admitted, looking straight into my eyes. I blushed and felt embarrassed.
"Kyo... of course." I replied. He closed his eyes in relief and breathed out a victory "Yes!" quietly.
"Umm... I'll meet you at your house on Wednesday, at five. I wanna take you somewhere special." I smiled and he slammed his locker and started heading to class. He remembered something and turned back to me.
"And wear something you can climb trees in." He waved, walking to class.
I stood by his locker, dumbfounded. Did I really just say yes to a date? With Kyo? What just happened? I've gotta tell Tohru! I set off to homeroom at a fast pace. I think I just got a date.
Nearby, three girls shivered with disgust. The one in the middle, Akari, huddled up and started whispering.
"We were wrong. She likes Kyo, and now they're dating." Akari said. "We've gotta change that. She still owes us for laying off her." They giggled, almost sadistically. One of the other girls, Ryouko, pulled a lipgloss tube out of her pocket. She spread it out on her lips carefully as she said "We need to figure out a way to end this." The last girl, Mesumi, laughed, and said "And I've got a totally perfect plan!" She pulled them even closer and whispered evilly. They nodded their heads and laughed as they hatched the perfect plan.
"Tohru! You've gotta hear this! Kyo asked me out." I went straight up to Tohru. She was sitting in her seat behind Uo, who turned around and rolled her eyes teasingly.
"Pfft, we knew it was gonna happen. Y/N, it's obvious he likes you." Uo said.
"Was it? Really?" I said, mad at myself for not noticing.
"Yeah, Uo's right. When he's with you, he's a completely different person. I've never seen him look at anyone the way he looks at you." Tohru mentioned. My face heated up. They laughed.
"I had no idea..." I said as the warning bell rang. I grabbed my stuff and headed to my seat, taking out a book.
The following days were suspenseful as I waited for Wednesday afternoon. Tuesday dragged on slower than a snail, and I was making mental plans on what to wear. It was hard to focus and concentrate in class. At least there wasn't a test. I would have been screwed, because I spent most of class time in my thoughts.
On Wednesday I bolted out of bed. I quickly stuffed down a breakfast of unbuttered toast(who has time to butter toast, anyway?) and swiftly walked my way to school, humming fast-pace songs loudly.
I quickly sought out Tohru and Hana. "Where's Uo?" I remarked.
"Today's the mile, remember? She thought it would be necessary to skip. She always does that." Tohru replied.
I made a face and said, "UGGHH. RUNNING."
Hana added, "Yes, I plan on walking the entire thing."
