Wrath's POV:

I woke up, to my phone alarm blaring, I grumble at it before shutting it off.

I instantly shot up remembering what today was, it was my birthday.

I walked across my slight mess of a room to my bathroom to get ready for the day. I looked to myself in the mirror and gave myself a pep talk while I was brushing through my hair.

"Wrath today's the day you're going to be your 18, you're celebrating with you're family, so don't worry about other things." I nodded to my reflection in the mirror.

I went back to my bedroom and rummaged through my drawers, I got some clothes and got changed and ready to go.

My phone vibrated and It was my Mom asking if I wanted to be picked up or not.

I replied quickly accepting my mother's offer, as I didn't want to deal with my newly acquired stalker.

A few days ago is when it all started, the feeling of always being followed everywhere, glimpses from my peripheral vision, of a person in all black following me. It had worried me enough for me to start carrying around a small pocket knife, my dad gave me it years ago as a gift. Only to now to finally be useful to me.

I couldn't go to the police as they told me and my family, that the person didn't try to do anything to me, so they couldn't do anything about it. We already knew our local police were corrupt, but this had only confirmed our beliefs about it.

I finished getting ready, I put on a hoodie, I grabbed my blue messenger bag, it contained my pocket knife and a small journal I had to keep track of every time I felt unsafe outside.

Every once an hour, I always left a note in the journal, indicating whether I was at home or not, what time it was, and if I felt safe or not. My mom was the one to come up with the idea, as it was the safe move to make, just in case if something would ever happen to me.

I walked outside, locking my door behind me, and waited for my mom to arrive at my apartment.

***

My mom soon arrived at my apartment and I hopped into her car.

But before she drove, she gave me a hug, "Happy birthday, sweetie."

I hugged back "Thanks, mom."

We broke our hug and she started to drive as we made small talk on the way to my parents' place.

***

We arrived quickly, as we didn't want to live too far apart. We only lived so close to each other because my parents didn't want me to move very far from them. With my recent issues, we were all glad I didn't move across the country.

I got out of my mom's car with my messenger bag in toe, she gets out as well and we made our way to the door of the almost mansion-like home. My family was always an upper-middle-class family, so my entire school life I was called a rich kid, and bullies were always persistent around me. I'm glad that I never have to deal with it again.

My mom opened the door and we went in.

I got to the living room and saw my dad watching the news as per usual. Once he saw me go around the corner, he stood from the couch and gave me a big hug.

"Happy birthday, Wrath. It's hard to believe that your only 18."

I hugged back and chuckled with my reply, "Thanks, Dad."

We stopped hugging and I placed my bag down on the couch. I pulled out my journal, I made a note of the date, time, and that I was at my parent's home, safe.

Whenever I entered or was about to enter anywhere I always made a note. Since I was at my parent's place, I'd only need to take a note when I got there and when I left.

I placed my journal back in my bag and we all move to the kitchen and talked about how I was doing. Although my attention wasn't on my parent's words but the TV, as my dad left it on the local News Channel.

----------

-and also in today's local news, the smiley killings are on the rise again. Police found more bodies as of last night, plastered throughout the city and riverside. All victims had the signature smiley face carved onto their right shoulder. Police have yet to find any evidence of who the suspects are, but are believed to be a local cult or a small organized group of people. The police's forensic team has discovered the killings took place at the same time and were purposefully placed in their respective locations. And confirming that these are the same killings, is the fact that all the victims were dark-haired, dark-eyed individuals. As of now, the police have yet to release any more information on the recent killings.-

----------

After my dad heard that they haven't been able to get any suspect's yet, he made a comment, "Those killings have been going on for years now, when are the police ever going to get their heads straight."

My mother sighed, "Well, we know how incompetent they are, so I doubt they'll solve it anytime soon."

I stayed quiet as I thought, 'Maybe my stalker is one of the smiley killers, I mean they only target dark-haired, dark-eyed people.' I shook my head not wanting to think about it anymore. I knew it was always a possibility but I could only hope it wasn't the case.

I turned back to my mom, as she prepared the food for lunch. Ever since I moved out, we always have lunch together on any of our birthdays no matter what.

***

After she finished cooking the food, we all ate at the kitchen island, instead of the kitchen table, due to it being a special occasion.

It was quiet while we ate till my mom spoke up, "Let me go get your present."

"Mom, you know you don't have to get me anything. I'm glad that we're just together every year, I don't need a gift."

"I know, it's just that I found something that you'll really like." She smiled, walking to the other room to get the gift.

She came back within minutes, with a wrapped up small box, with a neatly wrapped bow on top. She placed it in front of me to open it, I waited to be done eating before I even touched it.

I picked it up and slowly unwrapped it, my parent's smiles were quite apparent, as I hadn't opened a gift like this in a few years. The last one I'd received was the pocket knife from my dad, even then I was grateful for anything I received.

I opened the box and saw a deep blue snowflake necklace. I had to admit that it was a pretty necklace, so I picked it up out of the box. It had two silver chain tassels at the bottom of the deep blue snowflake.

"Oh...wow, where'd you get this mom," I questioned.

She answered, "It was your great grandmother's before she passed, I thought you may like to have it."

I stood and hugged both my parents, "Thank you."

After night began to fall, my mother drove me back to my apartment, not wanting me to stay out all night. I waved goodbye and watched as she drove away.

I unlocked the door to my apartment and quickly noticed something felt off. I got in and locked the door behind me. I pulled out my pocket knife and checked every room carefully, thankfully no one was in the apartment. I sat on my bed, letting out a sigh of relief, glad I didn't need to use my knife.

I quickly got a shower and got ready for bed, putting on the new necklace I'd just received. Before I went to bed I marked in my journal one last time and went to my bed.

I played on my phone for a bit before I felt tired enough to sleep.

I turned off my phone and quietly drifted to sleep, thinking about today's events
