“Eh, Naruto-San, you’re quite the artist.” I said, smiling at him, and walking past. He simply blushed and returned to his food.

While everyone else was eating their lunch, I was out further in the field practicing with my shuriken. I would hit the target, but not in the center like I wanted to, and I was beginning to become extremely frustrated.

“You’re holding the shuriken wrong.” I heard a voice say from behind me. I looked over my shoulder to see the raven-haired boy from before approaching me with one hand in his pocket.

“How would you do it then?” I asked. He took the shuriken, and placed it flat in his palm. He turned his hand upwards and snapped his wrist as he threw it. The shuriken seemed to shriek as it whizzed through the air, and hit the target square in the center.

“Nice. Let me try again.” I mumbled, and grabbed another shuriken. I placed it in my palm as he did and snapped my wrist just as he had. The shuriken flew, and hit the target right beside of his.

“Nice adjustment.” He commented.

“Yeah, thanks for showing me that- Sasuke, right?” I asked, grabbing another shuriken.

“Yeah, that’s me… Why aren’t you eating lunch with the others?” He asked, grabbing a few shuriken himself. I shrugged, and threw two more.

“I’ve already eaten. I still have half an hour so I thought I’d spend my time practicing… my father has been on me to get the shuriken technique down.” I mumbled.

“I take it your dad’s pretty strict.” He guessed, and I nodded.

“I want to make him proud…” I mumbled. He glanced at me from the side  as I continued throwing.

“I know the feeling.” He mumbled. I stopped for a moment thinking about how he’d tossed me around the other night during training.

“Yeah…?” My eyes narrowed, and I pulled the shuriken back really far and threw it with all my strength.

Why are you such a weakling?!

The shuriken seemed to scream as it cut through the air. It sunk deeply into the wood of the target, and broke through it, splintering it down the center. I blinked a few times as though I couldn’t believe I’d done that. I sighed deeply, and my eyes dropped.

“Well… that was an overkill.” Sasuke mumbled beside me.

“You know, you can’t just train to make him proud.” Sasuke said. I turned my head to him and realized he’d been watching me the whole time.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“You should train to improve your skills for your own benefit too. Never stop improving.” He said. I nodded, smiling slightly.
